Possible Recruits 2010 (unofficial)

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Skippy claims his delisting/ retirement from the Bombers relates to injury problems, are the injuries bad enough to preclude him from playing SANFL, also, if he wants to play is there enough room in the salary cap?
Might make a good assistant to Godden!!!!!!

Hmm, not sure if the story of bad feeling towards the club from Micky are correct. He has said he was told he wouldn't make it, and he also has said the guy was right at the time. His work rate was terrible and wouldn't have made it. But the spur of being told as such made him work hard enough. I dare say he might have mixed feelings about that one guy, remembering how hurt he was at the time but also knowing without that guy he would be remembered by an amateur club as a decent player.

Regardless it's a moot point. His body is shot and wouldn't go through too much footy at any level, he's well established in Sydney and has an AFL position to fill now. But if he were to come back to SA I think you'll find he'd be happier to be at centrals than any other SANFL club.

everyone is saying that Skippy will play for the Eagles if he comes back, but he could get more money and play under his good mate at South Adelaide

you could add shirley to the mix.

What's to say Godden wants them. He may want to develop his own team and not rely on old AFL hacks.....

Yeah, that's worked so far at Reserves level for Godden. This is League level now for him and we've had our share of good Reserves players in there over the last 2-3 years thanks.

That was for last season though wasnt it. I hope the eagles are not pinning their hopes on signing him and forgetting about everyone else like they did last year.

Just on the Micky O thing, when he won his first premiership with Sydney he sent the club a A3 signed picture with a plaque at the bottom, saying not bad for someone who couldn't play. My understanding is that there was more to just been told he wasn't good enough and that he had no support from anyone at the club when he questioned the persons motives. According to his cousin (his real cousin) he would never ever play for Central again and that may explain why he has never been seen back at the club in recent times.

Maybe some honest home truths got Micky off his ar$e & made him more motivated than he was at that stage of his football career, some players are naturally gifted but deep down lazy.
I would be thanking that person for his words of wisdom.

My understanding is that Skipworth is quite highly regarded as a mentor amongst the playing group at Essendon, if that is so, he could well go to South, yet perhaps in a coaching role as opposed to a playing role. Ron will no doubt be choosing his Assistant Staff and it could be that he sees some merit in an appointment like that?

If Skipworth decides to play SANFL but not at the Eagles it will cost his new club a rather hefty transfer fee along with a sizeable contract.

I guess he is a chance in coming back to the Eagles, but I'm not holding my breath just yet. Injuries are the big issue - he says he won't be able to handle an AFL pre-season, so could he handle an SANFL pre-season?

And the mention of Fuller trying to get him to South also has some merit:
- I doubt Godden will chase him to the extent (or offer as much money) as Fuller would have last year
- The offer from Fuller this year will probably be better than the Eagles will offer as I think Godden won't be putting all his eggs in the Skippy basket, unlike what Fuller did last year
- Given Skippy's "mentoring" position at Essendon, a similar job will be a perfect fit at South with a potentially young side

And as for him signing last year, it counts for almost nothing ... did the same thing happen with Jeremy Clayton a couple of years before he eventually joined Port? But the big difference is Skippy was originally an Eagle.

Kane Tenace, delisted by Geelong the other day, would be a quality player at SANFL level should he not be picked up by another AFL club in the PSD...

North have possibly signed a very good VFL footballer in Michael Barlow from the Werribee Tigers...

Roosters have possibly got the services from a "hard man" on baller type from the ACT league...

Not one Eagles player will end at South next season. They all hated him at the Eagles. Shirley wouldn't have played at all if Ron was coaching, Skipworth had to be coaxed to the Eagles for one reason only and that was his almost non existant relationship with Ron Fuller.

The Eagles had to make their decision on Ron and I am laughing that South picked him up. From what I know, our Club had lost faith in Ron's ability to develop players - not just pick them in the League team because there is a massive difference.

Fuller must be a great coach then.

To win a premiership and make constant finals appearances with a team of players that hate him takes rare skill.

I bet South hope their players hate him just as much.

Dimma = Damien Hardwick, now coach of Richmond, who when playing at Port, was aligned with Glenelg for his local club. He enjoyed playing for the Bays, and when he moved over to Hawthorn as an assistant, recommended the Bays to Ben Kane & Ruory Kirkby, when they got delisted from them.
