Oh boy, where do I start. I am immensely proud of every player for their efforts today. However, I think I am going to have a heart attack if this keeps going on :) It was pretty bemusing to see that there was no Angus Kurtze when the teams ran out. "Was it a training injury?", we thought... As it turns out it was a tactical move and one that paid off...just. Despite our inability to score in the first qtr I felt quietly confident, as the wind which was strong at the start of the game was with the Bays. We clearly struggled to move the ball forward of the wing, yet were only 15points down at the break, due to some dour defending. The second quarter was the Jade Sheedy show for mine. If Mules had played..if if if...the Bays had no answer for the way Sheeds gots things done, in any position on the park. Vintage Sheedy. If anything its a pity the 2nd qtr didn't go for longer (as a Sturt supporter). I really liked the way we were rapidly closing down opponents in our forward line. It was some of the best forward pressure I've seen all year.

It was a nice feeling being in front at half time, though I feared we need a bigger lead, esp. given our poor showing in the second half in recent matches. But somehow, someone explained to the lads it was now or never. I thought Sturt dominated the third quater and came out all (fit) guns blazing. Nelson attacked the ball on half back and showed the composure of experience. We won the stoppages pretty consistently yet only won the quarter by a single goal. Thurstans was off with a knee injury that initially didnt look too good. Was it enough? Well...5 mins into the final term I though the answer was a resounding "No". The Tigers started hunting in numbers, and some of the Blues started to look tired. But right then, I think I just witnessed one of the best quarters of SANFL finals football by an 18 y.o. Jack Trengove stood tall and ran his guts out til the very end. And for those Blues fans that were there in the games against Central and Eagles in recent weeks, it was an end that couldn't come soon enough.

BLOW THE F"KN SIREN!! YEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Hugs all round

Commiserations to Glenelg and their fans. Sturt supporters know the feeling of losing a close final. You were the stand out club for the H&A season, but given your list you'll be around the mark again next year. I am very glad, however, that all that talk of Glenelg by 67pts and a replay of last years GF has passed us all by though ;)

:D :D :D

The disappointment is immense, especially when the loses are 2 and 5 points points respectively.

I've already noticed some gloating from others about the results which I will not dignifiy with a response other than anonymous cheap shots are easy to make so go ahead and have your fun if that makes you feel good.

Fisrt of all, well done to Sturt today, thoroughly deserved the win. They withstood the first quarter onslaught and played the better football for the rest of the match.

The Bays lacked composure when it mattered but they did not give up and fought to the end. That lack of polish cost them both finals.

There are no excuses ... the Bays had control of their destiny and weren't good enough, but not by much.

I am proud of my club and their efforts, but obviously gutted by the result.

I and the Glenelg Football Club hold our heads high. This year is not to be.

Congratulations to Central and Sturt for deserving their places in the 2009 GF. It will be a cracking game and best of luck to both teams.

That's some great words there Dedja... I can't agree with you more with the comment in bold, likewise if we go down next week, I'll be feeling exactly the same, proud as of the clubs efforts, but without doubt gutted.

I feel for the Tigers, a class outfit all season, such close defeats. If the team had been smashed and knocked out like losers, then the club would deserve the scorn and ridicule, but they fought damn hard and just couldn't get over the line.

Its a crushing situation for Tigers fans and I feel for the players, like St.Kilda, did everything right the whole year, but end up with nothing in the end and 2010 seems like such a long hike away. Disappointing for them...

I felt todays game was like two best mates fighting over a skanky chick neither should want. Not good one team had to knock out the other to go on and fight the common foe.

Whats the answer WHO FREAKING KNOWS

I don't even know what to say to you mate. I have no animosity against Glenelg and never have. I feel for you and can only look back on 1998 when both North Melbourne and Sturt lost Grand Finals they should have won. It was a double blow to me...

For the Bays, geez yeah so many times one of the best teams in the league, but so many teams just seem to find themselves the 2nd or 3rd best side when it counts and they end up not being the top dog <no pun intended, but yeah it works>.

The Tigers have fantastic depth though and you really just have to go back, recognise the lost opportunity and hope the boys put it right in 2010 with renewed vigour. They're a class club and I still think better than Sturt.

Everything went right for us today...

Everything went wrong for Glenelg today...

We didn't win by fluke, but Sturt fans can be honest, great courage by us, but really awful day for Tigers in front of goal.

Likewise, enjoyed the chat before the game and yes, will definitely keep in touch.

With all supporters, there will be a range of reactions, especially from a larger group.

There will be those that go off and can't accept reality, blame everyone else, hang sh*t in their team or individual players.

Others will just sit there in shock, or console each other, show good grace and give the appropriate dues to the opposition while reflecting on wasted opportunities.

In terms of the people I know and have meet this year in the Snouts, the latter of those 2 scenarios apply in the majority of cases. That's also something that I respect and am proud of.

The posts by those same supporters on this site are testimony to that.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I wonder what odds you would have gotten that the biggest margin in the first 3 weeks of the finals would have been that North v Eagles blockbuster which was only decided less than a minute out from the end of the game!
I can't remember another final series like it.

Kurtze and Mules were both late scatchings today
Reasons ?

Also
It was reported that Richard Douglas was made unavailable b4 the finals series
becoz
his availabilty would mean a another player would miss out on playing
so when Mules pulled out today , and Douglas did not play its a bit hard to fathom now ???

Feel free to support another club if that will help you, we don't need so called supporters like you... I have supported this club for nearly 40 years and I don't post comments lightly.

I mean every word ... I did not clap them off today and did not say I was pleased or satisfied with the result, far from it, but I can still be proud. If you didn't notice or appreciate that those fellas busted their guts today then your understanding of football must be questionable.

Excellent summary Purch...

I was waiting for the Bays to blow us out of the water in that first quarter. They had control of the game and we were struggling to get passed half forward. But, our defence held pretty firm and to be 15 points down I thought was a real 'get out of gaol'...

Our intensity lifted and Sheedy and Trengove absolutely turned on two of the great performances for the Sturt Football Club. They were the standouts but there were other key contributors - Coad (my player of the finals so far), Bode, Jaensch and Bowen (in his best game for the club to date...) I also thought Thurstans was very good and hopefully from the looks of things he'll line up next weekend for the chance to be a 2 time Sturt premiership player.

As for the last quarter, well, that win makes up for all the near misses we've had over the last few years. As far as games I've watched goes, this one's right up there alongside our 02 premiership. We'll certainly go in as underdogs next week but I have regained my faith that the boys can play a game over 4 quarters...

The Bays... How gutted you must all feel. I'd love to say 'chokers' but I think that tag probably applies to certain players and not your team as a whole. Hell, you've dipped out to the two other top three teams by 2 points and 5 points... Sadly, that can be tougher to deal with than big losses. No doubt you'll continue to be a strong force next year...

You bloody bewdy... I'm on top of the world tonight. Growing up through the late eighties and nineties knowing nothing but failure and disappointment really makes you appreciate opportunities like this. The next 7 days are going to be great!
