Injuries and finals seem to go hand in hand at North and as was the case in the 2006 Qualifying final a legit excuse.

I would have selected Schwarze as another tall option - he can play up fwd or down back and swap with Gilly.

It is going to be hard to win with 3 first choice defenders out - 2 talls in White and Macca along with Sporn. Throw in Wright missing also there is height, experience and toughness missing this week.

Also Davis is going to Melb as a travelling emergency so he could well play if the Crows get a training injury or the flu hits them. That would be a huge loss too as he is the only tall defender we have named! Makes it more suprising Schwarze not picked IMO???

White must be fairly bad not to risk him in a do or die game!

Anyhow they have nothing to lose so they may as well just go out and play without pressure. Hopefully a little rain might suit our smaller line-up?

I hear he wouldn't play if a certain Eagles league player was playing .And he is playing for the eagles.
Heard from a south player that Schwarze was not happy last week .Another move is on I suppose.

Broadbent, Salter and Stewart all named.
Ommitted: Hier  , Smith
Interesting they have named a squad of 23, even though not waiting on Power or Crows selections.

I'm worried about the way the backline has been selected. Far too small in my opinion now that Hier is gone. I think Paul Stewart is a good match for Gill. Mcgregor will take Alleway. But I can't see who will take North's other big tall - Stewart who I think is at least 195cm. I'd imagine that Miles is a possibility but I've never liked him bck there as he is a bit slow for mine. I'm thinking that maybe they will play McKenzie back there or even Broadbent to take a tall. But if it is a dry day then we will be outmarked all day

Hmm - White an AFL failure, what does that make McGregor then?

Ken McGregor 1999 - 2008 (152 games and 114 goals)
Damon White 2001 - 2008 (55 games and 47 goals)

Hmmm - yeah looking at that I can understand why you would believe Kenny McG was an AFL failure.

Agree Mr Fuller. If it's not going to be wet, then definitely seem a bit short, unless the plan is to create run from defence to negate any flooding.
I'm probably a bit biased because I am a big fan of Hier's, doesn't often get beaten, pretty good left foot coming out of defence while often looking for a straighter option, doesn't panic although occassionally this sees him get caught holding the ball.

At this time of year I would have liked to have seen these guys playing
WHITE
SPORN
OHARA
MCINTYRE
M MOTLOP
DODMAN
MCENTEE
WHYMAN
SCHWARZE

Becoz they are not playing you would expect that WWT will win this

Also would be nice to see a fully fit
GILL
ALLEWAY

A NA win unlikely now
A NA win would be one of the clubs greatest wins

In case you hadn't noticed North has a very short back line as well so that negates that - we may have match up issues with the Eagles fwd line. I can see Gill lining up at CHB with Davis at FB to add some additional height so I am suprised Schwarze hasn't been named as an additional 3rd tall - either up fwd or down back???

Mal,

Just some comments re your list of our mising players:

WHITE - definite but with a bad hip and broken hand he must be bad not have been picked.
SPORN - definite but not in great form over the year - has looked slow and indecisive
OHARA - probably
MCINTYRE - definite
M MOTLOP - nup
DODMAN - you can't tell if he was a genuine chance because of injury but at 6'10 would have been handy in ruck or up fwd
MCENTEE - nup
WHYMAN - again injury ridden but would have been a chance if he could stay fit!
SCHWARZE - should be in the league with all the injuries we have got but he too has been injured over the last part of the year
GILL - too good to leave out, only lacking match fitness although he has missed half a season.
ALLEWAY - a half fit Alleway is as good as most fully fit in the way he competes and it takes a very good player to mind him.

AND what about Matt Wright - big loss re his toughness and number of disposals he gets!

Out of those not playing because of injury (can't count Schwarze and Whyman as they are up for selction and played ressies the last 2 weeks) 5 certainties are unavailable - 3 of them first choice defenders including our CHB and FB!

As you said if we get up then it will be a very good win given our "outs"!

Bad luck? We have been hit all year with players coming in and out with injuries. All clubs get them but it would be hard to pick a list of more important and experienced players missing from our list compared to any other side in the league?

Macca - badly dislocated his finger
Sporn - broken hand
Wright - knee
Dodman - knee (carry over from last year)
White - hip and broken hand and groin
Budgie - hammy but he has come off some good games after a knee reco so unlucky
Gill - coming back from broken ankle
Alleway - shoulder and also has carried a groin strain all year
Schwarze - carrying a shoulder since Anzac Day and also lower back complaint which has hampered his form, kicking and confidence. I would have played him this week though!
All were injuries you can't control as they happened in the games generally.

The only one you might argue with re managing an injury was Whyman who has had soft tissue strains all year althought he has got through the last 2 weeks? He did have extra weeks off to get in shape - i think he missed 6 in a row towards the end third of the season.

Is it just me but North over the last 5 years since they have been playing finals have always tended to have pretty bad runs with injuries.

Injuries and North seem to come up every year.

Can't see the Eagles losing this the week off for them is perfect, highly valuable to players after 10 months of training and playing. North at the end of the year can point the finger at their draw (as well as other factors). They have been playing now for nine weeks without a break. Every other club has had every other finals side has only played for four weeks tops.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yep, very frustrating. Cost us dearly in 2006.

Watching him play this season he's been lucky to get a game in the 2s. Has been quite disappointing.

I wonder which coach will be the first to concede and take a tall out of their forwardline? Or hopefully neither will and we'll have a high scoring shoot-out
