I guess you weren't listening to Cornes and Rowe then.

Interesting Warren Partlands view on the umpiring. Pointed out the poor umpiring almost decided the result of the second semi. In the context of talking about players throwing their heads back. I reckon he was referring to Willoughby's free in the last quarter from 40 metres out, slight angle. He threw his head back and no one had even touched him. Fortunately he hit the post.

The throwing the head back is a real tough one, if the umpire is slightly caught out of position and a player does this, it generally will always appear that high contact has been made.

If was on the Central coaching board i would be sending a dvd to Shane Harris of Willoughby doing this and McConnell diving everywhere, to put the seed of doubt in the umpires mind, One day a player faking will result in a premiership being one, much like soccer cup finals, i only hope it doesn't happen next weekend.

TV vision was inconclusive of the Willo free kick, none of the cameras had tight enough angle to see it clearly enough.

As for flinging the head back the twins are masters of it...

all players do it - throw the head back, its a tactic and it works as umpires just react to the action of the player rather then giving the free kick on what they had seen

Sorry sjt you're picking the wrong expert to justify any argument vis-a-vis umpiring, Partland has had zero credibility with anyone with a modicum of knowledge of the laws of Australian Football and umpiring interpretations since September 10, 2007 (day after the Elimination Final).
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yeah, fair enough Dutchy, I understand what you are saying and as soon as I said 'we' I realised I shouldn't have said it. Sorry, but old habits die hard ;)

Yes, there was a lot of talk about Central but they did win the game, we were talking to their CEO and which ever team wins this week, they will get their fair share of coverage as well.

We try and touch a little on the games from the weekend and then discuss the week ahead, sometimes, especially when there are less games played, the scales get slightly tipped one way or the other. Will take this on board, thankyou...

I would also suggest we will have another show after the week after the Grand Final, so there will be plenty of opportunity to give each club credit where credit is due, the Bays and Double Blues will get plenty of coverage next week.

It's back...

Outside 50 retunrs for 2010 as we count down the days until the season kick off this Friday night.

Every Wednesday morning on 1197am 5RPH tune in from 7am until 8am for all things local footy.

John Nankevill, Phil Herden and myself will cover the SANFL for the majority of the show then AFL with Zac Milbank for the last 15 minutes.

A special exception to tomorrow and next week's show will be Baseball SA's Media Manager, Robert Laidlaw, to discuss for 10 minutes the local Division 1 baseball Grand Final this weekend.

Golden Grove Central District Baseball Club are playing in their first final's campaign since the clubs merged and have made it through to this weekend's big Grand Final against Kensington.

We have been speaking to Robert on a weekly basis during the Wednesday Morning Summer Sports Show, which Outside 50 now takes over from, so it is only fair we continue to discuss baseball in their big finale week.
