10 Most Annoying Things In Football

All discussions to do with the SANFL

There is only one thing that is annoying about football (apart from umpires, of course, which goes without saying - even though I just said it).

That thing is the gross injustice that my team, the Bloods, also known as Westies, hasn't won more premierships.

Now, it's just a fact that West are the philanthropists of the SANFL. We've helped just about every club to win one, apart perhaps from North, but you'll all agree we have to draw the line somewhere. Those poor South supporters bemoaning the lack of a premiership since 1964 have turned to us once again, hoping to repeat the Neil Kerley experience. Centrals are comparing their current dynasty to Port of the 50's and Sturt of the 60's. Who did Jack Oatey coach immediately before Sturt? You guessed it. Which club did their first captain of that dynasty, Glynn Williams, come from? Correct again. Current coach - Westies. Reserves coach - Westies.

Port? Just mention that West Adelaide player, Fos Williams. Enough said.

The Bays? You're kidding. First premiership coach, Bruce McGregor, next one, Neil Kerley. Current coach - Westies, reserves coach - Westies.

Centrals - well, who got them started. Right again, we lent them Ken Eustice.

I could go on about each club, but having conquered SA, we decided we loved footy in Australia so much, we decided to win more Brownlows than any other SANFL club and lend more champions through the draft than any other.

It's annoying.

Watch out when we decide to stop looking after all you lot and look after ourselves.

Stop press: Watch out.

We've decided to look after ourselves :D

Just an FYI...

I'm late coming into this thread... but just on the big 4 phrase, here's the GF win/loss records since 1900... and when I say GF records, I mean JUST GF's, not the dodgy Challenge Finals that were about the place in the early 1900's.

What's up with them anyway... you're too crap to win the grannie or even make the grannie, yet as minor prem you get an extra crack at it?

PLEASE!!!

So repeat, this is just the GF records since 1900...

Port Adelaide 31 from 52

<daylight>

Norwood 17 from 33
North Adelaide 16 from 28 (includes one draw)
Sturt 12 from 21

<daylight>

Central District 7 from 11
West Adelaide 7 from 19
West Torrens 5 from 16 (includes one draw)
South Adelaide 4 from 11
Glenelg 4 from 17
Woodville 0 from 0 (poor bastards)

That's what my stats say anyway...

I don't think there is daylight between Sturt and Centrals

Norwood 17 from 33 52% success rate (in 108 years) - 16% strike rate (or 1 every 6.34 years)
North Adelaide 16 from 28 57% (in 108 years) - 15% strike rate (or 1 every 6.75 years)
Sturt 12 from 21 57% (in 108 years) - 11% strike rate (or 1 every 9 years)
Central District 7 from 11 64% (in 44 years) - 16% strike rate (or 1 every 6.29 years)

In fact you could almost argue it should be the other way around.

Whoops. Completely over stated Norwood (sorry). 18 Premierships not 27. Magarey Legend your average calculation would be more accurate.

You can't eliminate challenge finals (1900-1930) from the calculations.

You win the challenge final you win the premiership. That was the system back then as a unique way of the minor premier having a double chance. You cant change history because you dont like the concept.

My stats are based on the premiership deciding game, or whatever the last game of the season was.

Some years that was the final (when no challenge), other times the challenge final.

If the minor premier lost the GF, they could challenge for another game.

I, for one, think it is a good system. The final 5 system actually works against the minor premier, and a team that wins 18 minor round matches, should have the main advantage. One loss and they are losers

The top side gets a week off the first week, and a double chance, i think thats enough of an advantage.

But if they win, they play twice in 4 weeks - dont know about that - IMHO maybe the 4 still is a better system -

What if the minor premier has a bye in round 23, that means 2 games in 4 weeks.

Spot on Ash. This sh*ts me to tears.   When I talk to people over here in the UK about playing footy, they ask what sort, AFL? No, I never played AFL, only the elite do. It's Aussie Rules. It's like saying the Redbacks play test cricket. Or calling Touring Car racing F1. Stop it right now!!!!!
