Another flag next year and they would've matched Norwood's total flags since WWII...

I was thinking the other day

other than port has any club won more premierships than centrals since they joined the compitition in 1964.

Sturt may still be in front of them

Sturt need to find a key defender and find one fast before they blow their chance

Glenelg need a strong big bodied in an under player to compliment its running brigade.

Eagles need to find some depth if they wish to compete.

the rest need to find a Nathan Buckley to carry the whole bloody team

So it is a 4 horse race with the dogs starting favourites.

Calzy it really should read,

The REAL Port Adelaide Magpies 12 flags

The Ethelton Magpies 2 flags

As we all now know the real Magpies were destroyed/ruined/gutted/ when the Power was formed and everyone jumped on board.

First two matches of the season, you mean. ;) Not even CD fans make those statements.

So we North "folk" have to settle for missing the 5 again???

To early to be making those types of predictions but time will tell all.

Serious question, if a little off topic.

If CDFC continue thier donimance, maybe for another 2 or 3 years, what's the chances of them being asked to join the AFL as the 3rd SA side?

If this did ever happen, would that spell the end of the SANFL as a real alternative state league.

I only ask because there has been some talk in the past (I'm sure I've read it on here), of a 3rd AFL side in SA, and was it PAFC's total dominence for so many years, that prompted them to apply / or whatever took place, to join the AFL.

CDFC have been the "powerhouse" SANFL side for some time now, they are by all accounts, financially sound, and have a growing fan base with bags of potential growth with the outer suburbs growing by the year (at least that's what I understand).

If this did ever happen, could the SANFL survive in thier present format, or would the other sides just become the top tier of the amateur leagues?

Just wondered

I am pretty sure that's a "no" John.
The only supporters that would follow them would be Dogs fans, and there aren't enough.
I don't think any of the remaining SANFL sides would have enough fans to enter a side in the AFL alone.
Perhaps if Central and North together entered a merged club in the AFL there may be a supporter base to carry it through?
And yes, it would seriouosly cripple the SANFL IMO.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

As a very big generalisation of Centrals supporters, I'm not sure how many of them could afford the cost of regular AFL games or would want to travel to somewhere like Amy Stadium or Adelaide Oval to watch their team play. I think the SANFL is their ideal comp, cheap entry for fans (and free for kids) and they can play half their games at an oval that is in their area. Plus, they can continually win lots of premierships!

Judging by the crowds of AFL teams based in Adelaide from the past season - that comment could fit both of their supporter bases at the moment.

Here's why if I was a Bulldogs fan, I wouldn't want to enter into the AFL:
-You become subject to all the VFL history, rules and regulations - license fee, telling you what colour designs you can't have, heritage round red tape, etc
-Would not be able to keep the Bulldog emblem, and end up with a name like the Central District Dobermans
-Probably not be able to play at Elizabeth due to the facilities for the media and changerooms, thus losing the identity of playing in your traditional area
-And most fans would lose the ability to see every match live, either through time constraints, or lack of money to travel everywhere. That's not a generalisation; how many fans would you expect from any SANFL club to do that?

No that still leaves you with room to make the 5. It just means you will not win the flag unless you find a star player from somewhere.

It does not even mean that these teams will finish top four, it just means that at the moment they are the only ones with enough talent to get to October 2009.

My secret plan for the doggies is to win the next 15 Flags and save the prize-money to buy out the Wsetern Bulldogs when the AFL finally runs out of money propping them up. Please don't tell anyone :-$

Western Bulldogs relocate to Elizabeth doesnt sound too silly to me. Would be a good fit. More like 5 years rather than 15 years
The 'Central Bulldogs' based in Northern Adelaide,....could play the odd game in NT.
They could probably keep the SANFL 'Central District' bulldogs as a reserves team.
With Laird at the helm of the SANFL side, theyd still be strong.

Will the Western Bulldogs supporters be able to get a "lateral" Vic Housing Commission transfer to the SA Housing Trust if they want to continue to support the team if this occurred? At least the majority of supporters of both clubs derive from the same socio-economic demographic
