Agree with the support on Coopers Hill, it was a sea of Black and Gold. From where I was in the opposite pocket, you could barely make out a Norwood fan at all.
It was in contrast to the home game against North a couple of weeks ago where I was staggered by the amount of away fans around the ground - thought they actually outnumbered us if that's possible.
One of the great nights of all time from a Bays fan's point of view. Have seen many outstanding Glenelg teams trampled on at The Parade.
The Bronx cheers for Norwood when they scored in the third quarter to go to 1.2 were astounding.
And then to see the Redlegs mocked on their own ground as they tried in vain to score a second goal in the last quarter when much of the home support had left - you don't see that happen to often.
Glenelg's midfield and backline hunted in packs all night and always had three or four blokes running wide as an option.
The tackling was first rate and they went long and direct while Norwood continually overcooked the handball, almost always turning it over.
Fingers crossed for Grima, hope he's ok ... two and a bit weeks to get right and then hopefully we can stuff Port the same way.

Where do you start when analysing that game?

Norwood were absolutely shocking. I was quite worried pre-game about how well Norwood play against us at home on Friday Nights. I even commented to a few people that last night could be the night the Bays dropped one.

Unlike many others here, I didn't think Glenelg were exactly clinical in their performance. The Bays were very good, but had they consolidated shots on goal, many of which were either touched on the line, or shocking misses on our part, we really should have won by 120-130 in that contest. I thought our ability to get numbers to every contest, and our work away from stoppages was brilliant. We are a hard-running side, and our forward line of Grima, Duldig, Sellar and McConnell presented some massive challenges for the Norwood defence. Grima's body work and Sellar's high marking were sensational.

I loved seeing how desperate our defence was to prevent Norwood from scoring. It was almost as if those involved in the 1.4 debacle a few years back had decided they wanted Norwood to experience a worse fate.

Re. Adam Fisher. No one bags Fisher...However, I am guilty of whispering to a mate that when Fisher shoots* for goal, NEVER lock it in...then Fish went back and slotted it through from just inside 50 on an angle. To be brutally honest, Fisher, while being one of the hardest workers on a footy field, isn't the greatest disposer of the footy by foot. Having said that...Nathan Buckley used to lead the clanger counts in the AFL for years, quite simply because of the 45 times he got the ball, 10 were going to be ordinary...Fish gets that much of it that you can excuse the occasional blunder.

As for the calls that the Bays are certain Grand Finalists, lets all just wait and see how we fare against all the top sides again. Our next match against Centrals will be a true test, as will be the games against the Double Blues, Eagles and North. The challenge for us is to ensure we "get the job done" against the struggling sides in West, Port, South and I'll add, Norwood.

Enjoy the win Bays fans, but FGS, let's keep a lid on things...it's a LONG way to go in the season.

Mickan's third year in charge.

Hill's third year in charge.

Here's one for the mathetmatics out there, if Norwood are a 5-8 goal better side than North and Norwood can only manage 1 goal against Glenelg how many would North have kicked?

I bet its fortnights like this that JarManOut wishes he didn't ge himself banned!

SANFL News
24 May 2008
TIGERS NOW TOP OF THE TABLE
GLENELG continued to smash a trail of destruction through the SANFL with an 84-point thrashing of Norwood at The Parade last night. Norwood kicked just 1.3 - nine points.

The Tigers embarrassed the Redlegs with an emphatic display of high-class team football to claim their seventh successive victory.

The triumph saw Glenelg replace Sturt at the top of the table, stamping it as the most potent machine in the competition after nine rounds.

Such was Glenelg's dominance, the Redlegs were kept to a disgraceful 1.3 – one goal and three behinds in four quarters of action. They failed to score in two quarters.

Glenelg's relentless style of football, so typical of the club this season, stretched into last night and this time it was the Redlegs put on notice early.

This Tigers outfit is honest, disciplined and extremely hard-working and all its strengths were on display last night.

The Redlegs were dealt a huge blow in the opening minutes when talented midfielder David Trotter, a late withdrawal from last week's win over North Adelaide, was forced from the field with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

Glenelg was ferocious at the contest and just kept charging into the fray in pursuit of the ball.

And when it did not have possession, its tackling and harassment was desperate.

Tigers coach Mark Mickan has installed tremendous discipline and belief into the side and it produced an impressive advertisement of team football.

The hunger of the Tigers and their will to succeed dominated the battle, constantly putting Norwood under pressure.

They pushed the ball forward in numbers before bombing the ball confidently deep into attack searching for tall targets.

So committed was Glenelg to the task, Norwood was restricted to just 23 kicks and kept scoreless for the opening term. Norwood lifted the intensity after quarter-time but the Bays had all the answers.

It took the home side 10 minutes into the second period before Sam Rowe nailed its only goal.

Despite the Redlegs' Bryce Campbell doing a stout tagging role on Adam Fisher, Glenelg had far too many damaging weapons, too much class and too much desire for its opponent.

Rarely did the Redlegs venture into their attacking 50m, with the forwards starved of opportunities. And when they did go into attack, the Glenelg defence swarmed from everywhere to shut down any danger. After finally qualifying for the finals last season, the Tigers want to take their game to new levels and they are not satisfied with just winning.

They refused to take the foot off the throat of the Redlegs and pounded away at the opposition.

Easy to post this when you win but as Wedgie stated it was just a great night out last night. No problems in the crowd apart from a few verbals - but you expect that, its not like we are at Sunday school...

A good crowd, good footy (for me to appreciate), catering was great and I must say for my first time back at Norwood oval for 9 years the ground looked sensational.

When it hosted the baseball in the 90s the ground was shocking - uneven and patchy but last night it was in great nick

how did james sellar go. did he get alot of game time and not in the ruck
i have heard that the adelaide football club are annoyed with glenelg about sellar spending alot of time in the ruck and on the bench and are thinking of a transfer to another club before june 30. would be the second player to change in acouple of years after Willits
was Mickan coach then
the question has to be asked if he is not playing because he wants people that will always be there to be playing in the possies. really you shouldnt do that

Thought Sellar wasn't too bad last night. Kicked 1.2 and looked dangerous up forward. Spent a fair bit of time in the ruck too and did well there but that's obviously not where the Crows want him developing.

JAmes spends most of his time up forward, some time on the bench and he gives Cranston a 5-10 min spell each quarter in teh Ruck.

As I spent most of the time was spent up forward, and he took a couple of good marks, he was a strong target in the first quarter and his defensive pressure was great - couple of tackles and at least one smother IIRC
