North’s dream team
North Adelaide's Rhys Archard in action. Picture: Ray Titus
NORTH Adelaide will unleash one of the most dangerous midfields in the competition next year following the signing of Port Magpie Daniel Elstone.
Along with Canberra recruit James Bennett, Elstone will add some grunt to a midfield already oozing with class at Prospect Oval.
They will be welcome additions to Magarey Medallists Rhys Archard, James Allan and rising star Matthew Wright.
``It (midfield) was fairly impressive last year,’’ Archard said.
``And when you throw in the likes of Elstone as well, it’s starting to become pretty potent.’’
Archard said Elstone would add some hardness around the ball - something he admits was missing when Wright went down with a knee injury late last season.
At 26, the former Crows rookie is coming off a career-best season in which he shared the Magarey Medal with West Adelaide’s James Ezard.
It was no secret his breakout year corresponded with Archard being the fittest he’d ever been.
And he has no plans on slowing down.
Archard took a week off to relax in his home town of Echuca post-season, but began running three weeks before the Roosters returned for pre-season training.
``So far I’m feeling pretty good,’’ he said.
``Compared to this time last year I’m in front and everyone is just about running PBs.’’
The team held a training camp in Victor Harbor earlier this month which Archard described as ``solid’’, but a good chance to meet some of the club’s new players.
The Roosters will break from pre-season training next week and return on January 6.
CREAM OF THE CROP:
James Allan: Three-time best-and-fairest at the club, 2007 Magarey Medallist and proven ball winner.
Matthew Wright: Young but super tough. Wins hard ball and should be right for Round 1 after knee operation.
Daniel Elstone: Former Hawthorn hard-nut who has impressed at Port Adelaide. Courageous and good skills.
Rhys Archard: Running machine off half back this year, bagged the Magarey Medal and full of promise again.

Nick Lower yet to sign at Norwood
UNSIGNED: Nick Lower is yet to commit to the Redlegs for the 2010 season.
NORWOOD is confident of keeping delisted Port Adelaide midfielder Nick Lower at the Parade next season if he is not picked up in next Tuesday’s AFL Rookie Draft.
Redlegs football operations manager Mark Ross said Lower had yet to sign on for 2010 after being dumped by the Power in October.
``He’s got a contract offer in front of him but he’s still waiting on the rookie draft,’’ Ross said.
``We’re quietly confident of keeping him.
``We’re hoping by the end of next week it will be done and dusted.’’
Ross said Norwood was desperate to keep the hard-working on-baller, who played 13 SANFL games in 2009 and was named in the Redlegs’ best on four occasions.
``Definitely, Nick’s a very important player to Norwood,’’ he said.
Ross said Norwood had not received any formal requests from other clubs to speak with Lower although this would not prevent them from speaking to his management.

Thought he could of went on and became a very handy player for many years at the dogs but thats a real piss poor attitude, imagine how he would go as a midfielder and had competition from 10 other players.
Exactly the same can be said for Hinge, be very interesting to see how these blokes go in a new environment with the pressure they have put on themselves....
Almost exactly my thoughts when I read whufc's post. Though in Hinge's case he would have had less than 2 competitors for a league spot.
Yeah totally agree the Hinge move is just as strange and surprising as Giles leaving, 2 really weird decisions imho, but fair play to Sturt they must be doing something right to lure these blokes down there, Sturt would have paid close to $75000 in transfer fees this off season?

So stop the finger pointing, players move, get over it.
Just remember, if I have my details correct, Sturt stand to lose Coad for alot less than the transfer fees demanded by the SANFL for clubs within the league.
Perspective people, perspective! Stop beating it or you'll get a rash!

Your figure for Parry is way higher than what I was told .My source from Panther Land told me it was in the middle 20's .
And the figure being quoted for Boyd was in the middle 40's.

Perhaps it's best not to worry about what transfer fees were paid for any player because any figure quoted on here is not going to change what was actually paid (whatever that is). No-one here knows exactly what each club has set aside for transfer fees do they? Or how much can be used if necessary?
