I find it funny how many "other teams fans" all get uppity about transfers and fees .When "other teams fans"(myself included) have no idea how much it the deal did cost.
Didn't we see all this stuff when the Eagles signed Parry and Welsh .And not very much when Centrals signed Boyd ! funny that ;)

My understanding was Boyd cost about 25K. Kris grant said they had too pay more than they would've liked for him. There was a couple of threads dedicated to it.
Agreed, Nickname 12k would be good value.

Boyd's transfer fee from Central to South was exactly 25K (set by the SANFL).

Boyd isent worth it thats why the Eagles said no

I've heard first-hand that South got over $40k for Boyd - as a contracted player they could name their price. Also advised that the Eagles were willing to pay, but only on the condition it could be in installements as they have poor cash flow after falking out over $30k for Parry - South said all up-front or forget it. Centrals did deal the next day.

Flinging around $25k to other clubs in transfer fees, not bad for a club that's on the financial rocks or as quoted on here "in deep doo-doo".
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Then "the Eagles" are lying, but do agree he should not have been worth half that.

Id agree that he never got the consistent chances that he should have got, but then again, I dont think he made the most of the chances he did get either. Hes still some way from being an AFL player, hes not even a consistent SANFL player yet. Hes better than Deluca was, but not by a lot.

Hardly worth CDFC demanding $25k I would have thought, give the kid some credit, he obviously believes he can still make the AFL and by being told he is 3rd in line at the dogs they arent going to give him the game time he needs to improve

Griffen 12 games, Giles 16 games, plenty of opportunity/game time/chances.

Griffen 12 games, Giles 16 games, plenty of opportunity/game time/chances.

A stat that may suprise is that to this point in time both Giles and Griffin have eached played 39 league games in their respective careers.

Jonathon Giles debuted at senior level in 2007 playing 12 games in that season, then another 11 in 2008 and as mentioned above 16 this season for a total of 39, with about 20 odd reserves games thrown in between.

Jon Griffin debuted in the seniors back in 2005 only playing a couple of league games, spent the majority of 06 in the reserves, only played the 6 games in 2008 and 12 games this year for a tally of 39 also.

Griffin managed to win a Premiership in 2007 against North while Giles was apart of the flags against Glenelg and his probable new side, Sturt. Whilst Giles may be 3rd in line when Griffin is fully fit, Joffa had plenty of opportunities to cement his spot and push for AFL selection throughout the injury interrupted periods of Griffin being out of the team.

Every time Griffin went down with an injury, Giles usually had 1 or 2 weeks to step in, perform and keep his spot making Griffin work his way back through the reserves. Having seen 95% of Giles performances over the last 3 or 4 seasons, I can confidently say he did not take that opportunity as well as he should have and in many ways, only has himself to blame.

Griffin would come back from injury and Roy Laird would bring him straight back into the senior side forcing Giles back to the reserves because his form did not justify keeping him in. Giles managed to get 2 Premiership Medals with the Dogs because in both respective finals series, the Adelaide Crows ruled Griffin out of SANFL action because of injury concerns.

At the end of the day, it is percieved lack of opportunity from Giles' perspective while everyone within Central would know that he was given ample opportunity to prove himself but never took those chances by the scruff of the neck. He needed to force Roy Laird to pick him and at the end of the day he forced Roy to drop him for Griffin because he just didn't have that consistancy at the higher level, so how would he get his game to the level for AFL selection.

The stats speak for themselves in that he has played the same amount of games as Griffin, I would suggest that whilst Giles has 2 premiership medallions and Griffin just 1, Joffa just didn't get as much out of himself as Griffin perhaps did when the time came to perform at league level. For mine as well, there always has been some doubt over Giles disposal by foot, does let him down on too many occasions whereas Griffin is much better skilled I feel.

Silver or wooden? Its harder to amalgamate the two unlike other things in life. Remember, finishing last means that you're club stayed and competed.

Read in the paper today that John Platten will be heading back to the Doggies, as an assistant coach to Roy Laird.

And I think it would be fair to say Roy Laird has the league coaching role at Central for as long as he wants it. I think getting Platten on board is more for being able to pass on his experience and wisdom to some of the youngsters coming through. Of course as d4eva said, Laird would not have wanted him if he didn't see him adding value in some way.

The article in the 'Tiser had an emphasis on the fact Platts will be working with some of the underage players as well as someone like new recruit James Boyd. I know John didn't have a great tenure when coaching Freeling and I'd suggest he is doing it for the love of the club and to give something back to the place that gave him his start.

I'd be interested to see if Platts is an addition to the coaching panle or if he is replacing someone who is moving on. I hope it is not Gavin Chaplin or Neil McGoran, they have both been brilliant for the club and Roy in particular. I'd suggest Jeff Brown is coaching the reserves again and will still be there so it might be one of Nathan Steinberner or Luke McCabe, possibly Luke who has a farm at Hamley Bridge so may be putting more time into that ?

Here is the email :

The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Jarrod Silvester and Natale (Nat) Caruso.

Jarrod (24) spent the past two seasons with Richmond FC playing five games in 2009. A Full Back, he has finished in the top three in Coburg FC's Best and Fairest for the past three seasons and was named in the VFL Team of the year in 2007 / 2008.
