Sounds like he's pretty keen for another SANFL premiership,
It's all the SANFL's fault.

So why is he looking at going to Sturt ;)

Nah, just kidding...

I think at the end of the day, the main reason he will be looking at leaving is the financial side of things. He is now not on an AFL list and I would assume Central just couldn't offer him as much as he perhaps thinks he is worth.

To be honest, saying he doesn't see much of an opportunity at league level seems like a cover for the more pertanent point of what kind of coin he can get now he is in the big wide world of having to find a full time job.

My info, right or wrong, has always been that kurtze was carrying an injury into the finals and that's why he wasn't played. So I don't know where this "left out" crap comes from. Think about it, Chambers under an injury cloud, Thurstans in some doubt, Bowen worked thru injury in the prelim and the club is gonna leave out their only other "fit" ruckman or tall for no real reason? Not to mention that he's still at Sturt, so that cancels out any problems with the club & player.

Kris Grant said Central wont budge on the $25K for Giles, I assume Hinge wouldn't be much less than that, so the Doubel Blues possibly up for $50K just in transfer fees !!

I'd respectfully suggest that (IIRC) Hinge has played more AFL and SANFL games than Giles so that under the SANFL transfer formula he would probably be worth more than Giles. Giles didn't play an AFL premiership game did he?? Obvioulsy Giles has more SANFL premierships than Hinge   not sure if they are part of the formula.

Either way Sturt are going to have to produce some serious coin for both players. Did they have to pay a transfer fee to West for Hassan???

Yeah, sure, fair enough as well...

I would assume they had to pay a fee of some sort for Hassan, so like you say, that is a fair bit of coin to come up with for 3 players. If the other 2 lads become official, I would think it's a fair chance we wont hear of too many more recruits to Sturt on 2010.

I think Hassan was still under contract wasn't he? If so (or even if not) I would have thought he'd come with quite a hefty transfer fee.
I would have thought Hinge would come with a $25,000 transfer fee if Giles is going to command that much.
The positive for Giles is he's about two years younger than Hinge and I can't recall him getting any injuries.
As BP said before I believe Giles would be leaving for the money not for greater opportunity. It would be hard ( I imagine) for Central to pay him anywhere near what his AFL contract was worth. Given the "cap" he could probably get paid twice as much in the country leagues.

$25k for a player centrals was willing to play in the reserves during the year and was clearly their third choice ruckman.

How centrals could say he got every oppurtunity when they played griffen in front of him all the time is amazing. They certainly gave him oppurtunities but not what he would realistically need to further his AFL career.

Having said that I dont think he has grabbed his oppurtunities and has gone looking for the easy way out.

I guess a 200cm, 21 year old, formerly AFL listed ruckmen aren't that common. As a "required" player to a club they should (CDFC) seek that much. He could be have a 10 year + SANFL career ahead of him.

I don't have the Annual Report in front of me at he moment, so I'm not sure how many games he played in 2009. However, I do remember Griffen seemed to be injured quite often so he had those opportunities.

I find it funny how many "other teams fans" all get uppity about transfers and fees .When "other teams fans"(myself included) have no idea how much it the deal did cost.
Didn't we see all this stuff when the Eagles signed Parry and Welsh .And not very much when Centrals signed Boyd ! funny that ;)

From memory Giles played about 16 league and 7 reserves games.

Seniors:
16 Games
142 Disposals
58 Marks
11 Goals
2 times in the best players

Reserves:
7 Games
8 Goals
5 times in the best players

Id agree that he never got the consistent chances that he should have got, but then again, I dont think he made the most of the chances he did get either. Hes still some way from being an AFL player, hes not even a consistent SANFL player yet. Hes better than Deluca was, but not by a lot.

Hardly worth CDFC demanding $25k I would have thought, give the kid some credit, he obviously believes he can still make the AFL and by being told he is 3rd in line at the dogs they arent going to give him the game time he needs to improve

My understanding was Boyd cost about 25K. Kris grant said they had too pay more than they would've liked for him. There was a couple of threads dedicated to it.
Agreed, Nickname 12k would be good value.

Thanks Macca for the stats. How many games did Griffen play ? I doubt he was ever told he was third in line, 16 games is not bad opportunity. I can understand however he needs to make a living out of his profession. A lot of employees would change jobs if offered more money, loyalty doesn't put food on the table.

Boyd's transfer fee from Central to South was exactly 25K (set by the SANFL).
