Correct. Wonder if the advertiser heard to contact John or if John felt so passionate he rung them ???

His attack on the entire sanfl/salary cap today showed his true agenda .

It wasn't just an attempt to save the club he "loves".

Terrible timing from Halbert, why not see if Sturt can turn this around thru their current campaign first?

Exactly !!!!!

Why not propose a merge with another sanfl club. Why Adelaide former crow official ???

Crows discussed it once at a board meeting and have never to my knowledge even spoken to sturt about it.

Now the former crow official is asking why sturt haven't looked at the proposal ????

People might of fallen for this garbage in the 80s but not now halbert

For the record I hate Strut more than Al Quida and the English cricket team!!
BUT I never want to see them disappear, or any club either!
Still sad that reality says we need to trim back to 8 clubs.

Halbert said this about 2-3 weeks ago and the Tiser jumps on it now.

Its just Halbert's opinion..... he cant actually make anything happen (even if he is a club legend and generally a good bloke)

I beleive If sturt persue something with Adelaide it should be an alignment - not a merger. Where the Crows pay sturt for the privellage of being a 'feeder team'. This Sturt can chip away at debt and retain their full identity - which would be lost in a merger (just look at Box Hill and Preston - sorrry Northern Blues). We probably have to accept that alignments will happen and just carve out the best deal rather than resist.

Personally I agree 8 teams is the ideal number. But I would hate to see someone go. An option is for West and sturt to form an inner city super club and adopt a similar naming policy as the Eagles... i.e. West Adelaide-Sturt Blues. The biggest issue with this is that the clubs have no historical link like WT and Woodville had so any merger might not be smooth.

Rooch is desperate for the Magpies to become Port's reserves, hence this story bobs up.

As for the League wanting to cull or merge a team, that's just garbage.

They are very keen to keep the numbers where they are, provided each club stands on its own two feet, and they will work hard with financially troubled clubs to ensure that happens.

But they will watch very closely at what happens in the WAFL this year in regards to East Perth and Peel being feeder clubs.

If it is successful this time in the West, I have no doubt the tide will be almost impossible to hold back, particularly once Leigh Whicker retires.

What we all need to do as SANFL fans is make our voices heard.

Ring or write to your club Presidents ... make it known in no uncertain terms how you would feel about a competition involving two AFL reserves sides and what might ultimately happen to your membership dollars as a result.

Hang anti-AFL banners up on the fence at matches ..

Be heard now or one summer soon, the rug will get yanked out from under our feet like it did in Perth.

I dont like the idea of alignments..... but I would rather it be done in the open than in secret as with Port in 1990. If 7 of the SANFL clubs dont get a set of acceptable conditions together now they might get blindsided as in the WAFL.

The Perth based AFL club looked for the weakest links in the chain and got them to make a deal. The same will happen in Adelaide....

Protest, complain, sook and stamp your feet all you want. If the men at the top decide it is going to happen it will happen - so be pragmatic and get the best deal/model now.

Why do we need to end up an 8 team competition? Why is the bye such a 'big issue'?

The disappearance of one club doesn't mean more money for the other 8 (or am I missing something?).

I dont want to see any club fold, but after reading how much some clubs losing so much money last season either through mis-management or other ways, something will have to change, wasnt in favour of Woodville and West Torrens merging, but overall it has been good when from memory West Torrens couldnt survive as an individual club.I bought a Port Magpies membership a couple of years back and i will do the same for Sturt, just hope eventually everything will settle down.
