A bit smarter? Or not desperate/hopeful for that dream leg up?

If they are so smart around Unley way why can't they find a board that has a bit of business acumen?

The decision to place the pokies on Unley Road in an ideal world would never have happened. It was never goigng to maximise returns and to this day I know some in the club rue the decision.
But i'm pretty sure that for a good period of time you could only move pokies a small distance, say around 3-4 kms. This was changed a few years ago but the date escapes me.
I'm pretty sure the club looked at a range of sites but they aren't in the public domain.

In other words, the only people who want to play pokies are those that can least afford it.

The SANFL needs to expand again to 10 teams, Woodville and West Torrens should unmerge and regain their respective identities. The state of football in Australia is nothing short of a disaster. Its hard to believe that so many so called South Australians jerk of to the power and crows when there are local clubs to support in the SANFL. As a kid growing up prior to AFL era i wuld go and watch norwood every week and the atmosphere at power and crows game is nothing compared to what the SANFL used to be. For all these years the SANFL has failed to stand up to the AFL and now they are at their mercy. The SANFL needs to take on the AFL and expand. Promote the comp and make it interesting again. Don't worry about the financial side of things because it will take care of itself. Half of the AFL/VFL clubs are on welfare but they continue to expand. Bigger is better!

JK i live your avatar (nice beer that)...and your choice of team, but definetly not your thinking.

Do we really want to be Victoria's bitches from now to eternity? Why do we continue to panda to them, because problem South Australia's don't believe in themselves.

The time is right for a revolution. Cracks are beginning to appear in the AFL and i doubt their model will survive long term. Instead of taking it up the ass from Victoria the interstate clubs could go and start their own comp. Victoria would fall into line very quick because theres no way their clubs could survive without interstate revenues. A new national comp would not accept Victorian sides unless they are sustainable and not requiring welfare which is about half of them. We would then have a national comp of about 12 to 14 teams which is about the maximum amount of teams considering the size of australia and that not all states are football states. This would reduce the amount of AFL players and create a greater pool of players for local leagues thereby increasing standard and interest.

Victoria has given new meaning to the word selfish when you conisder how they have run football and SA will continue to be at their mercy until they stand up.

On the Rails...maybe i am dumb and perhaps the people running the SANFL are smart. But there intelligence doesn't seem to be helping the comp much does it?

Maybe its time to try some dumb ideas. What is there to lose?

Anyone else find the timing of all this interesting. It's now the lead story for nine sports.

All sturt would need to do is survive until 2014 when the sanfl can finally cash in on this ill gotten investment that is port in afl(I suggested selling the licences 6 years ago when we would if got 300% the price but hey what do I know).

Why not just state "we aren't where the club wants to be Financially but with Sanfl finally selling off some dud assets we should receive a big cash injection that would certainly quash any suggestion of Sturts extinction".

Or are they just preparing the media/sa public for when the crows take over sturt the pr will be It's for the good of everyone???

The answer is fairly obvious. Considering the crows stated they thought the notion would be very unpopular and the topic never passed discussion point.

It is certainly all of a sudden very popular ????

I wonder why.

Im sure Ian Mclahlans nephew Gillon Will know the answers

I'm hearing Sturt are in real trouble. I'm hearing rumors of a debt of around 4.2 million and there's a big possibility of no blue boys in 2013. Any truth to what I'm hearing?
