Good to see Jed Dignan with 2 goals....ultra talented sportsmen from Orroroo. I've played a few years of cricket against him and he's a really good lad to go with it.

Round 8 Torrens University SANFL U18 Match Wraps
from sanfl website

Woodville-West Torrens 10.9 (69) d Central District 8.6 (54)
Woodville-West Torrens announced itself as a genuine contender in the Torrens University SANFL U18s with a hard-fought 15-point win against Central District at X Convenience Oval.

The Eagles’ fifth win of the season ensured it would draw level with the top-placed Bulldogs with 10 premiership points, now sitting in second spot just 0.4 per cent behind the ladder-leaders.

Trailing by five points at half-time, the visitors booted 5.6 to the Bulldogs’ 2.4 to finish as the stronger outfit, powered by a trio of influential midfielders.

Eagles Darcy Hudson (26 disposals), Brody Mair (24 disposals, one goal) and Archer Charles (29 disposals, one goal) all had a huge say in the result.

Central officials rated the performances of Mitch McDonald (19 disposals), Jayden Matz (23 disposals) and Jonah Pyman (18 disposals) highly.

Norwood 12.8 (80) d West Adelaide 7.8 (50)
Norwood’s William Rowlands and Jacob Jones were on a mission as they led their side to a comfortable 30-point victory against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

Making their move in the second term with 5.2 to the Bloods’ 1.2, the Redlegs were always going to be tough to beat with Rowlands and Jones in a ruthless mood.

Rowlands finished with an impressive stat line of 30 disposals, eight marks, five clearances and five goals while Jones was the leading disposal-winner on the field with 36, to go with nine tackles and seven clearances. Brayden Rachwal kicked three goals for the visitors.

West battled to stem the tide in the second half, thanks largely to the efforts of Padrick O’Donoghue (21 disposals), Sam Burbridge (26 disposals, two goals) and Bailey White.

North Adelaide 9.5 (59) d Glenelg 7.11 (53)
A late goal from North Adelaide’s Harrison Dallimore proved the difference in his team’s nail-biting six-point win against Glenelg at Prospect Oval.

With scores tied after Tiger Kaidyn Weber booted a behind in the 24th minute of the fourth quarter, it was Dallimore who stepped up with the match-winner less than 60 seconds later.

Dallimore, who finished with 26 disposals, four marks and his crucial major, was high among North’s best players along with Tom Stevens (21 disposals, nine tackles) and Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier (31 disposals, nine clearances).

Responding in positive fashion to a heavy defeat in Round 7, the Bays had Angus Clarke (29 disposals), captain Ryan Wurfel (21 disposals, one goal) and Bowen Payne (29 disposals, one goal) fly the black and gold flag.

South Adelaide 10.11 (71) d Sturt 8.8 (56)
South Adelaide turned the tables in the second half to register a stirring 15-point win against Sturt at Flinders University Stadium.

Coming off a powerful performance in Round 7, the Panthers were surprisingly sluggish early before putting the foot down after half-time to boot 6.6 to the Double Blues’ 2.2.

South’s Dakota Sterzl (25 disposals, two goals), Ayden Duke (17 disposals) and Noah Howes (16 disposals, three goals) were instrumental in landing the premiership points for the hosts.

The Double Blues had Lachlan Bosence lead the way with 24 disposals while Kobee Dabinett (18 disposals) and Noah Prenzler (three goals) also battled valiantly.

from sanfl website

Glenelg 11.8 (74) d North Adelaide 10.9 (69)
A spirited late fightback saw Glenelg defeat North Adelaide by five points at Prospect Oval as it drew level with Sturt atop the Torrens University SANFL U16 ladder.

After an even first half, North Adelaide took a 13-point lead into the final change before the Tigers kicked three unanswered goals in the last quarter to snatch the victory.

Will Attiwill booted three goals in the second half for the Bays, as Isaiah Clothier gathered 37 disposals, seven tackles and ten clearances.

He wasn’t the only one to record big numbers, with Rooster Charlie Dickeson also collecting 37 disposals to go with 14 clearances and a goal.

Central District17.15 (117) d Woodville-West Torrens 5.3 (33)
Central District stamped its authority on the competition with an emphatic 84-point triumph over Woodville-West Torrens at X Convenience Oval.

The Bulldogs looked in control from start-to-finish, with the usual suspects again firing for the home side.

Ball-winning machine Dyson Sharp was at it again, this time managing 44 disposals, 17 marks and 14 inside-50s as impressive forward Dougie Cochrane dominated the airways, taking ten marks and booting five goals.

Jevan Phillipou was a shining light for the Eagles, gathering 35 disposals, ten marks and five clearances in the loss.

South Adelaide 9.4 (58) d Sturt 7.4 (46)
South Adelaide defeated premiership contenders Sturt by 12 points in a tight contest at Flinders University Stadium.

In a low-scoring affair, with the margin never exceeding a point at any break, the Panthers booted four goals to the Double Blues’ two to seal the win in the final term.

South ball magnet Cameron Woods was terrific down back, accumulating 30 disposals and ten rebounds, and Jackson Moody was excellent for the visitors, winning a game high nine clearances.

Noah Kliems Carlaw booted three goals for the victors and Ryan Huddy was Sturt’s only multiple goal kicker with two.

Norwood 10.6 (66) d West Adelaide 8.8 (56)
A dominant second term was enough to see Norwood beat West Adelaide by ten points at Hisense Stadium, in a game dominated by the ruckmen.

After a quiet start for the scorers, the Redlegs compiled five unanswered goals after quarter time to set up the victory.

Redlegs tall Harper Bromson had a terrific day, booting four goals along with 15 possessions, 11 hit outs and a couple of strong contested marks.

Fellow Norwood ruckman Oliver Gribben also enjoyed a strong performance, winning 28 hit outs but also recording an impressive 11 clearances and 26 disposals.

Bloods tall Zanen Syrokos was his side’s best player, finishing with a team-high 22 disposals, 14 hit outs and a goal.

why is he still in the 16s? surely he should be pushed up to challenge himself against bigger, better players in the 18s

Looking after his AFL draft prospects....

A few lads are doing that this year on the back of the success Mathiaus Phillipou last year.

We've seen the same with Patty Weckert at the Eagles this year. He either plays League or goes back to the under 18's where he will dominate in front of recruiters.

Hes 2 years from being drafted, Have doubts he'll be a high pick anyway.
Not a great kick, doesnt defend and is a man playing kids, will struggle when others catch up physically in my opinion.

He has the state program over the next 4-6 weeks, Id say if he keep his form he will get a crack at a higher level after that, no use doing it now.

Nope.

Mathiaus Phillipou deliberately didn't play much senior football last year only 3 reserves games and close to ten under 18's games.

Look at Patty Weckerts on SANFL app...had a real rough year in the league and speaking to his father the decision was made by all parties including the club that he would go back and play under 18's rather than reserves football. That was told to me by his old man, the words reserve football is a football graveyard for draft prospects.

Theyre basing this off what the victorian lads do, none of them play VFL they play the entire year in the under 18's comp.

The fact that the VFL has no reserves competition means that it is 18s or VFL seniors so there is no in between unlike SANFL

The last Glenelg draftee to not play reserves footy was Bailey Williams in 2015, maybe Oscar a Adams in 2021, IIRC

Whilst the players are managed if your good enough to play twos footy you'll play it at the Bays to get exposed to higher pressure and decision making which separates 18s and 2s especially when a significant number of SANFL clubs 18s players have been pulled to the inferior independent schools footy to learn to be individuals and "win it for Hearts/Saints/Kings" etc

If I was a recruiter I'd be taking no notice of 18s footy ATM with the college kids out.

This used to be universal, now it seems it isn't. But good on the Bays for sticking with this.

Funnily enough, from the last 5 drafts, the first kid taken from SA has been from a public school 4 times.

No I'm saying that the standard of 18s is so relatively poor compared to when all the kids are available that big stats numbers can be a reflection of the lack of depth they're playing against.

If I was a recruiter I'd note the big numbers and use it to reference watching the kids later for if he goes up to reserves against better opposition and for when all the better players are available.

I'd be applying the same logic to any gun kid in the College system, note their numbers and performance but I'd be drafting them based on how they go agaisnt the better teams (when all players are available) particularly at the 18s carnival and if they play senior footy.

I remember in 2016 we pulled up u/14 Brodie Edwards and an U/15 Beau McCreery to play 18s at the Parade because of injuries and College commitments. (Beau didnt look that out of place) just quietly. But we had some seriously poor 18s level kids who were only getting a game because noone else was available and they had major deficiencies in their game.
