The SANFL program for next season is to break new ground with two games to be contested on Good Friday.
South Adelaide has again been granted its wish to have a Good Friday game following the success of its brave initiative in recent years. It will host Glenelg at Noarlunga.
And Central District and North Adelaide have agreed to meet on March 25 as the two clubs seek to consolidate the northern rivalry in the opening round.
“Both clubs were interested to play on Good Friday and we will be looking to have that as part of the fixture going forward,’’ SANFL football general manager Adam Kelly said.
Traditional rivals Norwood and Port Adelaide will open the season when they clash at The Parade on Thursday, March 24.
The draw for next year will be revealed in The Advertiser on Saturday morning and the blockbuster battle will be confirmed for the Thursday night.
“The Thursday night worked well for us last season and this game will work well leading into Easter and is a great start to the year,’’ Kelly said.
“West Adelaide will be able to unveil its premiership flag on the Easter Saturday, when it takes on Adelaide at home.
“Then there is the game between Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens at Peter Motley Oval on the Monday.’’
The state side will be in action again next year and will face the VFL at Adelaide Oval on May 29. Glenelg legend Graham Cornes will again coach the side.
“Having the game at Adelaide Oval is significant for our players,’’ Kelly said.
“The SANFL wanted to offer that opportunity to the players.’’
The state side will have a new captain this season following the retirement of former Central District skipper Paul Thomas.

Jonno Beech will love it, he'll be running out for the opposition, but he would understand it is a necessary evil of being on an AFL list, finally...

Yep, meaning that the season is spread out over more rounds but more byes more often !!!
Also, I think there might also be a couple of country games - one at Mannum (SANFL Showdown) and maybe one in Renmark (West v Port)
