These players are contracted to play AFL not SANFL... If an SANFL club wants to pay the players contract for them to play for them in finals then go ahead.

Also opens up a can of worms for the AFL should they get injured and miss a year with a knee recon for example - or miss 70% of the preseason... should the SANFL pay out the players contract?

Then the SANFL clubs should stick together and ban any of them playing during the season at all.
The Crows will no doubt want guys like Henderson to play SANFL this week if he is not picked for them so Centrals should just not pick him and make him sit this week.
The AFL clubs cant have it both ways, they use the SANFL at their whim. The sooner they get a reserves comp and piss off to the VFL the better

Port Flowers and the Camry's need to be escorted post haste into our Reserves comp with whatever motley team they like, then we will just have to accept that as a comp, the Ressies is toxic! In normal circumstances i would agree and this decision may have nothing to do with the events of this week but i would've thought that the events of this week would mean the power players wouldn't be in the right frame of mind for a game this sunday.

True enough but had that tragic death happened during the season I am sure that would have made the team mates resolve even greater the next time they played. You wouldn't think they would forfiet - they would play in memory of their team mate?

I don't think anyone would begrudge players pulling out of this weekends games due to the circumstances of the week, but all of Port's players were removed beforehand by the club.
Find it interesting that virtually all those in the US had played a full season of AFL footy, yet those having to go under the knife so urgently had played significant amounts of SANFL footy. Does this mean SANFL footy is physically harder?
(I know the answer will be that Port want these younger players right for training before the more senior core commence).

In fairness to Port, some of the players unavailable for SANFL weren't ruled out by the club, but elected themselves to get in for surgery quickly.

I know it sucks not being able to include blokes that have been through our SANFL club's system and underage, but for guys like Pfeiffer and Jonas (for example) they are young men hoping to establish a career at AFL level, and if they believe their best opportunity to succeed at that is to get in quicker for surgery and get back on the track quicker and in better shape, then it's hard to knock them for thinking that way.

Why is there always issues with Port AFL players? It seems that almost every time an AFL player needs to shift clubs it belongs to the Power, Power players are taken on plane rides to be emergencies leaving SANFL clubs short of players for games
