Even West at full strength would struggle against Claremont.

I think most SANFL sides would struggle against a full strength Claremont side on their big ovals.

Andy Collins...

"If you don't want to play your best older players for fear of injury, give your youngsters an opportunity to show what they can do on the big stage, " he said.

"Each club would have a lot of kids who aren't getting a regular games who would love the chance to test themselves against the best players from other states an push their claims for a league berth and perhaps as future draft prospects."

"To me it's a win-win situation. Your young players get valuable game time against good opposition and your club's brand get's a fabulous national exposure. We are really excited to be involved in this new comp."

Collins said being involved would also help his club attract recruits and new sponsors.

That statement is self-defeating. If every participating club fields kids in order to expose them against the best from other states, then no team consists of the best from any state. Either all clubs take Foxtel cup seriously and compete seriously, thereby compromising their chances in their domestic comps - or Foxtel Cup is an irrelevance; nothing more than a handful of organised scratch matches having no consequence.

That's a bit harsh whufc. I think the Bernie Dockers, defeated by 22 goals against Werribee a couple weeks ago, would probably take that mantle...

Not even in the same class when it comes to embarrasement.

Bernie play in what clearly is a 5th tier comp against a side in arguably the 2nd best comp in the land.

If anything West come from at least the same standard league as their opponents.

I remember last year when all these coaches were saying how it will give their players a chance to perform on a national stage etc etc. I hope these players enjoyed performing infront of a national tv audience. LOL.

If you think it is embarrassing to the SANFL then how about your club stepping up to the plate? or is your CEO also scared of embarrassing the SANFL also

My club has made it clear its number 1 priority is to win the SANFL premiership, its not going to risk senior players or send over a 27th string side in a comp that doesnt mean stuff all.

Your club decided to play in it, they were completely embarrased in it, we all laughed at it, end of story!

IMO think once they found out that round 1 was going to be a long trip to Perth they decided that it was going to send a young team. Had it been a trip to Victoria or against a lesser team then they would have had more focus in winning the game. If the game was played here against Claremont, a stronger side would have been put out. It was all about the travel.
