I think ours cost $700 return each but that included 3 mights accomodation and transfers and we did get an International flight up there which meant free piss! :D
For $1000 I'd want a private jet.

The going rate on Qantas (which is the only way a footy team would travel up there) is around $450 up and $700 back. Thats going up on a Friday and back on a Sunday.

We dont need it , its the sort of thing the AFL would do but this leagues strength is in its tradition , competitiveness and grass roots appeal not to mention the budget costs associated when compared to AFL . Its no different to the rubbish AFL reserves arguement ....... there aint nothing in it for us :)

With that attitude, the SANFL will slowly, slowly die. I'm sure there were people against admitting Woodville and Centrals into the comp also.

I'm all for it. Provided we have adequate funding for travel costs, this funding must be long term and benefit all parties concerned and preferable have no AFL strings attached.

It may cost $1M+ but if it produces benefits that exceed the costs then it should be considered. I don't think many of the people posting on this site realise that footy has gone ahead in the north of Australia while it has marked time in SA.

Where is it in my post that infers I am not visionary just because I am realistic in my views???

Just like the AFL who now all fly on Virgin Blue. Even if Vigin Blue don't fly there, i am sure a friday arvo flight could be organised to the value of all parties.

Part time Professional footballers can't afford the time off work to travel there and back. It took almost 80 years for the rail line to reach Darwin imagine how long it is before a high speed rail line reaches there

Who keeps spreading this myth that Virgin dont fly to Darwin? You'll just need to come via Perth and play a WAFL side on the way.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Should have made it clearer but I was looking more towards the Jetstar alternative. I don't know what aircraft they fly to Darwin but if you have 30-40 seats of a flights tickets presold and guaranteed the optimist in me says something could be arranged. The NT government also has a history of bankrolling new flights in and out of the territory which could help the situation.
