You sure it wasn't because your team were getting done jtc? ;)

In all seriousness, was he that bad and if so, what you want from him to improve the listening experience?

One word BP...terrible.

I cannot remember one sentence that made any sense. He mummbled and giggled the whole time.

STEVEN MORRIS
I had always thought and seen Steve as a hard at it tough in close player
One of the most gutsiest players in the league
This year Im seeing Steve play with flair, skill and rebound
His disposal is also immaculate from the times Ive seen him
IF WA make the finals, he would be one of the first I would select

COHEN THIELE
Heard on the radio that he is the cousin of that WA superstar Tony Godra

you know me better than that Phil.

Some people just don't go well the radio and in my opinion he is one of them. Sounds like he had just got out of bed mate. Maybe a bit of enthusiasm

enjoyed the game, enjoyed the 'biffo' but macreadie's 'act' was MALiscious & uncalled for, would get 4-6 in the afl so in the sanfl he'll get 2-3 i would think, west controlled most of the game & never really looked threatened, morris (along with mackenzie) is one of two players i admire & enjoy watching from an opposition team, west had numerous players running & working together while north left it for too few to do too much, as for the mouse report in the 2's well that belongs in the best jokes thread, if there is vision of it it'll get thrown out.....as for the magarey when the bookies open up a market & james allan is black figures i'd jump on as he will win it barring a long term injury

ps, was great to catch up with red&black before the game

Re: REVIEW North v West - Round 11

This was a win that should send a big message that West are a side to be reckoned with. The big proviso is that it probably needs close to its best team on the park to produce such a performance.

Anyone who was at Prospect yesterday knows that the 33 point margin flattered the Roosters on the day. West were strong at the footy, ran in numbers, had marking forwards and a strong, rebounding defence. It was one of those days where you didn’t think that North was particularly poor, but that West was very good and they controlled the match almost from start to finish. In patches, North looked dangerous, especially when they kicked 4 goals in about 5 minutes late in the third quarter, but this was more an aberration than a true reflection of the game.

The Bloods kicked into a strong cross-breeze in the first quarter, but dominated play totally, kicking 4.3 to nothing, until conceding a goal from a free-kick late in the quarter. That dominance generally continued for the rest of the game, interrupted only by that 4 goal burst and West managing 8 points in the last quarter.

There were a number of interesting outcomes. Although Ackland got his hand to the ball often, Ryan Willits’ ruck work was impressive. One piece of play resulted in perhaps the best goal I’ve seen for some years. Willits tapped the centre-bounce ball down an on-baller’s throat, he handpassed to a running wingman who kicked to a strong-marking Fort Caruso on 50. Caruso wheeled on to his left-foot and squared the ball 30 to 40 metres in front of a running Chris Schmidt who marked without breaking stride before punching through a great goal.

If you love SANFL, you would have loved this game, the second wonderful West v North game to watch this year at Prospect. There was plenty of skill and several fights. It’s fair to say Ben MacReadie is likely to miss a game or two and Messrs Birss and Delvins will nervously await the tribunal verdict. Each side will blame the other and Andy Collins says in today’s paper that Clint Alleway likes ‘wrestling’. Ryan Ferguson was awarded a free kick and took some time to clear his head from an apparent ‘knock’ from his immediate opponent. North fans will also be happy to relate misdemeanors by various West Adelaide players.

James Allan? Once again he had about 40 possessions, but very few hurt West, IMO. Many were deep in defence, but he had several inside-50 entries. I agree with those North fans who point out that deep in defence is where the ball was most of the time, so that’s where he was.

The key to West’s win was its defence. On paper, North had a strong forward line and West a strong defence. Gill, Stewart and Alleway took several marks, but many of them were from short leads outside 50. In the 1 on 1 contests, Silvester and an under-done Ferguson more than held their own. The rest of West’s defence was outstanding. The perhaps under-rated Kurt Thompson, Shannon Green and Daniel Caire provided run and rebound, while this season’s revelation, Steve Morris, had 27 possessions, 10 marks and continuous rebound off a back flank.

At the other end, North know they’re somewhat vulnerable, as they lack height. Early on, Brad Moran took advantage with some nice marks and Matt Lobbe later grabbed one in the goal square, but it was another under-rated player, Jonno Beech underlined his 5 goals against Williamstown with another 4 from a forward pocket.

This is obviously written from a West point of view, but although they were well beaten, you got the feeling that North aren’t far away and have the talent and a better game style to match it with anyone as they get more used to Josh Francou’s coaching.

Andrew Collins has gradually overcome most of West’s hoodoo grounds. Two wins in one season at Prospect is a wonderful result, but there are challenges ahead as West head to another hoodoo ground at Unley next week, having to possibly replace several players from yesterday’s side. The loss of the hard-at-it Nat Caruso is a big blow and we can only hope he recovers quickly.

In the seconds, North walloped West, going from 6 goals to 5 in the 2nd quarter, to kick 14 in a row and win by 20 goals to 6.

Redand Black,

long time reader, first time poster, enjoy your match summaries, thanks. Steve Morris, what's his background, is he Kevin's son ??? I've seen Westies a few times this year (when rostered off) and he really impresses. I thought he covered his man and the CHB's when Ferg was out. Would he be good enough for an AFL list ? He's certainly courageous enough, got good skills hand and foot, plays tall and small, doesn't look slow, engine ?

What worries me is the thought of him, Fergie and Ben Fischer all going for the same ball from different directions and the resulting collision putting all 3 in hospital, if there's a more fearless half back line around I'd like to see it. Go Bloods!

Cheers,
Piewarmer.

Thanks Piewarmer and welcome to the forum.

Yes, Steve is Kevin's son. Kevin frequently comes over to watch him.

I would say Steve will attract interest from the AFL, as he's tough and gives rebound.

He was terrific yesterday and you're right, a half-back line with him, Fergie and Fish would be absolutely fearless. Add Shannon Green and you're talking some tough players.

Due to ill health I missed the game today as such I listened to the broadcast on radio --- I really enjoyed the call which I found kept interest in the game even when the scores were wide --- In regards to the guest commentator I found his comments were very good and to the point with the limitation being more with technical issues (poor mic) than in what was said --- well done to all concerned as I got my dose of SANFL for the day :D

I disagree, I was at the game and thought North were terrible, handpassing and kicking the ball to West players throughout the game under no pressure. I didn't think West were that good, it was just that North were wooden-spoon level rotten.
