In the second quarter, a Jimmy Ezard passage had to been seen to be believed. I doubt those on the grandstand side would have seen it. He smothered the ball to keep in the area, then laid 4 bone crunching tackles in a row then as Centrals managed to clear the ball out of the area he sprinted 15 metres and dived full length to try and smother another ball...but was just too late. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up the way he just pushed himself for the team.

Really like Willits, Birss,Sylverster and Pettigrews' games. Not big stats or widely noted by gee they were great.

For the Dogs, doesnt Sutherland cover the ground well for a big bloke?

Little talk of the umpires on here. I thought the difference of the free kicks was warrented as we were first at the ball and the Dogs players were getting frustrated. The were even arguing amongst themselves in the last quarter.

First time Centrals have lost their first game of the season since 2001 :D

yes it is, then We went on to win The Flag.

Hartlett is a big loss - A CHF that is athletic and creates space and takes a good tall defender like he does will hurt.
Hopefully his fracture heals in good time and he can be back mid year although I know v. little about ankle fractures and the time they take to heal.

I guess we will need to rest half a dozen players this week since we will front sturt on Thursday. Not a big break for some of the players although its better not to have a bye as the break often leaves players flat.

May the good form of the bloods flow through the whole season in 2011 - I like the attacking nature displayed so far and the much lower handball to kick ratio.

CDFC will be better for the run and folly to those who write them off after their first real hitout.

Hartlett's ankle isn't fractured, via his FB page. It is in a cast as he has some ligament damage and has been told 4-6 is the best case scenario and 12-14 weeks the worst.

Hopefully he can get over it quickly, they don't have much luck in the injury department the Hartlett's.

That happens a fair bit between our players, but apparently all the players know to accept it and get on with things.

and agree the umpires had no impact on the result, it would have been wrong if the free kick count was even as West were first to the ball on 90% of occasions.

Agree on the umpiring - West were first to the ball and were rewarded. Most importantly, I found the umpiring was consistant, and that's all I ask for

I think Borholm or Webb can cover for him. Borholm really deserves a chance at CHF for the league.

Watch out...Westies have finally found a game plan!

And I wouldn't get too cocky yet Norwood supporters...you have only beaten 2 bottom feeder teams so far!

Big Phil wrote:Just a tick over 4100 at Richmond tonight, which is a good crowd. Scott Turner (West Football Director) told me pre-game they would have been happy with 3,000 - 3,500.

Good growd, great game from the Bloods and a great BBQ. Well done to the Richmond faithful.

and with a tick over 7000 at the Adelaide Oval for the Sturt Norwood game that's a great crowd figure for SANFL.

Didn't look like a bad crowd at Alberton today, so if 5000+ get to Noarlunga tonight, why should sanfl teams be forced to play curtain raisers.

Like i said earlier west need to take advantage of having Harltett, Fisher and Ferguson all on the park at the same time, they did this.

1 looks like he is already back on the injury list this is the key to their year imho.

To be a serious premiership threat they need these 3 blokes playing at very least 15 games each this season.

Perhaps for Power games they should be referred to as 'tarpaulin raisers'.

Maybe the Power should play as the curtain raiser to the Magpies at Alberton ;)

I think you're overstating Hartlett's importance to the side. For whatever reason he's contributed very little in both of our wins this year, so I can't see his absence being a big issue.

I totally agree. We have Daniel Webb Mark Bornholm and Brayden Fisher all of whom could do a good job too. Not to mention Moran.

I rate Hartlett - takes a good defender out of the game creating space for Fisher, Caruso etc...
Still, opportunity knocks for someone to step up and make this position his own.

On a side note, I notice West Adelaide have updated their club song. A much better version than their previous version IMO.

I noticed Corey Reichert from Central had some kind of ankle or achilles injury late in the game, might be a couple of Dogs fans pleased about that?
