the main objections was that the lights attracted too many moths to the area, which in turn attracted bats & the locals didn't want to wake up to bat shit all over their volvos.

Article about it in today's Advertiser on Page 11.
Some ridiculous arguments against night footy.
1) Footy noises will be louder as there's less traffic
(would this person rather the noise of trucks than the occasional whistle or cheer of a crowd?)
2) Drunken, misbehaving supporters will OVERRUN their streets at night, in the days of the Bays disco (approx 25 years ago!!!) there were faeces in the road, fraffiti, pulled-up trees and general damage
(I dont know about others but having gone to a few nightclubs and footy matches over the years I can say comparing a night club crowd at the end of the night to a crowd leaving the footy is ridiculous, I haven't seen any examples of misbehaviour when I've left night footy games, easy end to this argument is to look at stats the councils in the Elizabeth, Richmond, Norwood and Noarlunga areas could provide)

The opponents of the lighting really do seem to be clutching at straws.

comparing a footy crowd to a disco crowd is ludicrous, i am sure there wouldnt be too many fans taking a dump in the street as they left with their families at 9pm on a friday or saturday night. These stupid old farts are wasting their time, this wil happen!

Agreed, its one of the most ridiculous things I've seen written.
Might as well as compare a lawn bowls tournament to the London riots, about as much similarity.

Surely there can be no fear re that group of teenage drop kicks who call themselves the "end to enders"??? Between the 10 of them at Prospect last time we played Centrals they managed to cobble up one brain cell between them! Doubt any of them would be able to find Glenelg Oval after sunset in any case?

Ha ha, if anything you should be happy to have some others to take the attention away from your drunken stumbles down Jetty Rd when families run away from you!

Night footy at the Bay?

If that is Glenelg's attitude, then I hope night games don't go ahead at the bay.

We all know there is only a stac kof "end-to-enders" when they get the games to Footy Park September/October and anyone who has been on Jetty Road after 12 midnight knows that 3500 people leaving the footy would proabably tidy things up for the young yobbos out on the gas.

I prefer Hindley St to Jetty Road late at night.

Today we are greeted with the news that Glenelg do not want night games against Centrals
Centrals currently are also excluded from night games at Norwood oval

What next ?
Perhaps Eagles, Glenelg, North, Norwood ,Port, South, Sturt and West to ask if Centrals can be excluded from AAMI stadium day games in October ?

If I was Rob Nelson I'd probably concentrate on getting the basket case that is the Glenelg Football Club some on field success before I started dictating who and when I wanted to play a particular club.

Agreed - we've had night games at Richmond an Noarlunga this year with zero problems (and the Richmond game was a bad loss). If the Glenelg Football Club are that narrow minded then they don't deserve night games.

After reading that article - Rob Nelson you are an embarrassment to the Glenelg Football Club and a disgrace as a SANFL CEO and should resign over your pathetic comments about Centrals supporters. What next Mr Nelson, are you going to request Centrals supporters be banned from Gliderol Stadium altogether. Grow up Mr Nelson and behave like a CEO, not a petty narrow-minded bigot.
