So the 3 umpires on the ground were the only ones that made mistakes out of the 45 people out there? Fair dinkum

FWIW I thought they were reasonabley good at Alberton yesterday

I wonder how many of those Norwood 'supporters' were following the side last year, or even around rounds 6-7 this year before Norwood hit some form

i wonder how many of the Central supporters have any scarfes or caps older than 10 years? ;)

whufc wrote:honestly thought the scoreboard flattered norwood a bit. we dominated larger periods of the game and were out to a 20 odd point lead in time on.

watching the replay now with a sore head. my reasoning is there very heavily reliant on moving the ball by hand and run. this is all good and well on the smaller ovals where you carry it 50 meters and your one kick from being inside 50.

On the bigger oval they missed plenty of options where players were lose 40 meters ahead but they preffered to run rather than kick over the distance. Another aspect was once in the center square they looked to chip the ball inside 50 rather than the quick long entry which i think works alot better. At the parade you can find a target from the center square 15 meters away and then have a shot on goal

Not sure whether I agree or disagree with that, but can understand why you think it and you may well be right .. I don't know that yesterdays game answered too many questions to be honest.

Both teams will no doubt believe they can improve, and probably considerably, on yesterdays effort .. The difference between the two is that we KNOW 1 will improve, and the other whilst it should be possible, still has to show it.

FYI - the name "The Spirit" comes from the second verse of the club song where a line refers to "the Spirit of Old (19)46, six six".

As for the supporters there - all of those wearing a red hat are long term supporters who are there pretty much week in, week out.

I spent the third quarter on the outer wing and would have to say it was almost all Norwood from what I saw and heard - so that was good.

At the end of the day you're damned either way - you guys asked for a good turnout from Norwood and you got one. I don't think many there yesterday were bandwagoners as TBH any bandwagoners would probably tend to go to home games or Alberton.

At least a couple of Centrals supporters got given free tickets by yours truly - I specifically gave them to doggies fans on account of Centurion's offer to Norwood fans and the provision of free (secure) parking for all fans.

Possibly the worst comment on this whole site, why would we parade our premiership *scarfs and caps...?
Club would have made a fortune from this gear, and unlike you, I buy new gear every year! How's the old lace up guernsey? snug fit...?

Hey squawk - serious question.

Given our discussion prior to the match about midfield and defence of each team, how do you rate them now?

Personnaly I think that Norwood matches up well with the dogs.

Only replying to the smartarse remark above it questioning the loyalty of Norwood supporters!

I buy 4 junior memberships, 1 adult membership and 1 members plus membership, grand total of $465, plus 2 adult tickets to Guernsey presentation, hall of fame, gala auction and best and fairest. As well as 6 new hoodies and t-shirts every year, and new kids guernseys every 2nd year.

As for an old lace up, if anyone has one for saleor trade I'll gladly take it!

I've got club stuff older than 10 years, but I choose to wear gear pertaining to premierships from this millenium (and I'm a bit bigger now).
However, It's good to see supporters from both teams even if they've just jumped on supporting the SANFL.

D4E - interesting question!

For whatever reason, in recent contests the two sides have struggled to shake one another. They must match up well on one another! What I took out of the game yesterday was that neither side exactly had their top shelf footy on display. Norwood was close to full strength, Doggies have a long list of comebacks to happen yet.

The game was played from half back to half back all day. Both sides missed two many opportunities so it meant neither one capitalised suffieciently on the mistakes of the other.

The Dogs have a couple of things in their favour in Buckets Mackenzie's tap work and Callinan. Callinan is worth an average 3 goals a game to you guys from the middle of the ground. Our rucks are young and lean and get outbodied pretty easily.

Norwood was let down by being too slow to go inside their forward 50 - they didn't seem to want to kick to a contest there. On the other hand, Central perhaps struggled to counter the run and carry of Norwood from half back to half forward.

I guess that's a long winded answer. I was trying to answer this question in a way before the game, when I asked Doggies fans to try and argue as to why Norwood would win (and I tried the opposite). The end result of the game was another close one but I don't think either coach would feel their best was on display yesterday. Ironic that even on the bigger ground, the final scores weren't a lot different to the Rd 11 clash so maybe that says it all - they do match up evenly in a lot of ways. Come finals time though, the CDFC's self-belief of 8 flags in ten years will be worth another 4 goals probably, whoever they are playing in finals!

What are your views D4E?

True Story: The bloke (a massive Norwood supporter btw) who used to be the maintenance man at my work about 6 or 7 years back bought a framed Norwood guernsey (forget which player) from either 1978 or 1984 Grand Final at a garage sale for ,IIRC, $5.

I thought it was great seeing so many Norwood supporters at the game, dont care if they have jumped back on been there all there lives its just good to see them out there supporting there team.
The two teams are starting to build a rivalry with lots of close games,i dont believe there has been more than a couple of goals in any teams win in the last few years and it will make for a great finals series if and when we meet in September.
I travel to all away games and believe (Where possible) all true supporters should do so as this is when your team need you the most.

Well said mate, I've got more time for returning or new supporters than those who abandoned the club when the Crows started and hardly even know we exist the days.

I think Norwood's mid-field is very good but the dogs are better. The Norwood players are still young and will improve and I expect Norwood to be a force for the next few years if they can keep their squad together. On Saturday Goodrem was needing the run and Sansbury has not yet reached peak form. Roy is a master in getting the team to peak in finals. Norwood's defence is the best in the league but if we can get a fit and match conditioned Havelberg and Schell on the same park our midfield will give them so many opportunities they will kick a winning score. I see attack as Norwood's weakness. They will have to be able to kick more goals than they did on Saturday to win in September.

Will be interesting to see if the Sam Rowe / Chris Gowans post game punch up is looked at during the week on the tape?

From memory (at least in Amateur League) you could get reported some time after the match. This may have changed though.
I think Chris won't have a problem.
