We flood and we should be happy to do so.

As a few have mentioned our boys have scored more than our opponents. That is the idea of the game. Stopping the opposition from scoring is a very important part of that. Perhaps some would also have us stop trying to punch from behind, smother and tackle as these things make the game "ugly".

The original superflood of the 90's did not involve players running hard forward when their team had the ball like we do this year. This is where we have improved this year from last.

As I said, all teams do it and West are 6-5, with a positive points differential.

To do it from the beginning of the game is imho the wrong mindset to send the players onto the field with.

That presumes they are instructed to do it.

What factual evidence, other than your opinion after seeing them once or twice, do you have to support that.

If you think you're right, how do you explian that we've kicked more score than our combined opposition, or is that just an annoying detail ;)

I haven't commented on any other game than the Central vs West @ Richmond on that occasion you didn't score more than your opposition.

I wasn't in West changerooms before the game but if that wasn't Collins instructions than the players aren't listening to him because from the first minutes of that quarter they were putting a huge importance on getting men behind the ball.

My point is if West 'FLOOD' from the start of the game like they did against the Dogs they will not win a premiership using that tactic. I thought they would have attacked us like they did at Richmond last year, as i believe they have a better side than in 2009 while Central squad is about the same.

I think you see what you want to see, WHUFC.

Forming a judgement about teams by one game against Central isn't necessarily a true indication of how a team plays.

As I said, in that game Centrals had all their players inside Wests attacking zone for long periods of that game and West certainly didn't 'flood'from the start of the game. What would West supporters know, though; we only see them every week.

Nobody wants to answer my question about how we've managed to be 6 and 5 if we just flood. :?

I'm certain that if Ryan Fergusson, Matt Lobbe, shannon Green, Chris Chubb played v Centrals, we would have played a little differently as well. We do miss Pettigrew up forward and in the CDFC game, Anderson, MOrris and Hartlett played their first game for either the year or after an extended break. I appreciate some of the comments re flooding and I think it has hurt us on occassionsm but we were very much undermanned in height against the dogs and qucik long movement into the forward line against a sound doggies defense would have seen the ball rebounding at a rate of knots and I fear we would have been belted by a great margin. I believe the next WA v CD encounter will see a different game style should we have a taller side like the one against the eagles.

At the end of the day, you have to play a game style which matches the cattle on the park and I think a 6-5 record with the run of injuries we have had is incredible and a credit to Andy Collins. It was only a short time ago that we were a basket-case in the comp.

Central supporters ... the self appointed experts on everything

Isn't it incredible how they know so much more about the game (and our own clubs), and their opinions on games they haven't attended is just so precious!!!!

I think as mentioned by someone else in this thread, West has improved in running forward once forcing a turnover in their defence, and that is why they have been able to win more games than they have lost. I can remember us playing West a few years ago where they would flood but then immediately kick the ball out of defence straight back to us in the centre of the ground.

It's not so much an issue of being able to win when flooding - a team might not flood and win 120 to 90, or flood and win 60 to 45. Interestingly West have the second lowest average points for per game, but yes, they have had even less kicked against them.

Games with flooding might not be as attractive but if my team had more chance of winning by flooding than going all out attack then so be it - I'd prefer my team winning by only kicking 10 goals than losing after kicking 15 goals.

Agreed that West have won games with flooding, and well done.

What happend on Saturday was that West got an early lead and were able to close up the game after quarter time and prevent the Eagles an easy passage to goal.
They play a similar game style to St Kilda, designed to strangle the opposition in attack, then when they get possesion they run forward with a fast break.
At times on Saturday, West won the ball across half back then they had no one to kick to....they had to wait, chip the ball around ...go sideways and wait for runners to get forward.....and yes they did it pretty well.

As the game got close in the last quarter..thanks to the umpires shocking decisions...West were being challenged..but were able to quickly move the ball forward with an open forward line...and Bennett was able to mark strongly and kick 2 match winning goals.

West seem to be a much better team than over the last few years...and if the style of play wins them games then good luck.

Its not pretty but if you get the points..well done.
