Fair enough CK - I wasn't looking at it from any financial return aspect (ie players got paid so repay the favour), moreso from a 'for the CLUB' aspect.

You mean 'Why hold it there then?

Because it was a joint meeting held by the Power and the Magpies

The Magpies rally at Alberton had the Power rubbing their hands together as far as "bar $$$ takings" are concerned.
If the Power had their way they'd be dragging this thing on for another 6-12 mths.

Wake up Magpie supporters, take the rally to the POW.

Do you realise who put the rally together?

If it was organised by the fans, it would have been held at the POW no doubt.

I agree. Every event for the Magpies should be held at POW if they want to get the side benefits of their people spending money while they're supporting their cause.

What are the PAM Marketing people doing? Get with the program!

Plus Adam Internet gets a double thumbs up from me for their support of the Magpies in upgrading their internet allowance free of charge for February, as the club had already hit its maximum entitlement for the month. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Magpie supporters have to start realising that the restrictions on them by benefitting financially from the Power (eg. in bar takings, etc at the Port Club) is identical to the restrictions placed on any other SANFL club benefitting directly from an AFL club.

The Power and Magpies are two separate entities merely having the same first name, but effectively have the same business connection as Norwood, Sturt, North or any other club has to Port Power.

If the Magpies are going to hold their rally at the Power's home then expect any bar takings to go to the Power. If I was running a business holding a function at the Port Club or any other licenced venue, I wouldn't expect them to give me a share of the earnings for the night.

It looks like it's another stupid financial decision by the Magpies not to hold the rally at the POW - they are going to have to be smarter if they are to survive.

That is on the cards but will still invove Alberton. The plan the club has backed is one where we march from the POW to the clubs internal trial at Alberton. We are hoping to get enough to get one of the outdoor bars open and run fully by the Magpies At least this way the POW gets some money but the faqct is it is not big enough for a rally on its own.

We are awaiting approval for a march down Port road from the police traffice unit who have to give us exemption from tha law abouyt walking on roads. It will be on the 26th and start at 4:45 if it goes ahead with a meet up at the pow at 4

Keep us up to date Lynwood, will make a sticky when its all confirmed.
I found the police very helpful when I ran the rally that had a couple of thousand people walking down Main North Rd, as you're given them prior notice I'm sure you'll have no problems.
The senior policeman on the day came up to me and asked if I wanted half of Main North Rd down, I was a bit dumbfounded but said yes and thanked him! :D
I also let the councils involved know and they were good about it similarly as they got prior notice.

Is the 27th an option? Being a Saturday, you might get a much bigger turnout. Also avoids a problem in running up against peak hr traffic on a Friday night, something that the Police will be very mindful of. Maybe the internal trial could be moved to the Saturday to accommodate everyone if necessary? On the Saturday, you could even invite the media to do Saturday sports shows and reports from the ground as well.

Must admit if its a Friday I doubt I could be there living down south and having to wait for the wife to get home (approx 6). If it was a Saturday I'd be there for sure.

friday was the clubs decision, if we could get the trial moved then I would prefer sat,

I will discuss this with the club becasue there are even some other Port fans who have said they cannot make it.

Even without the trial sat would be better and the club can still host catering at Alberton which they have offered to do.

Yeah Lynwood, I reckon Sat would be better all round - for attendances from marchers as well as from a SAPOL perspective. Then you just have to get the time right - (eg morning probably clashes with school sport, while late afternoon could clash with tennis/cricket etc for mums and dads!). Anyway, keep us posted ;)

The time if it was sat will be somewhere between 3:00 and 4:30 to avoid clashing with the POW lunch and tea times. that way the dinning area can have people buying drinks over the bar as the front bar on its own is way too small for a large number of people.

Dinning times are 12-2 and 5:30 to 8:30.

Cheers - suggest you guage an early view from SAPOL about that possibility too. Mad March is a killer for them managing all the events on around town. Avoiding shift change would suit them too (around 3pm ish).

If it's to be planned out and promoted properly I'd avoid getting anyone from the club involved.
