Don't find it amazing, you're not hearing the full story on that one, you would be amazed at some things if you heard about them but it wouldn't be North's stance.

whatever wrote:As for North suggesting they would go down the path of a merger with the crows I find it hard that people with big enough egos to run a SANFL club will willingly hand over power to an AFL club without being in a position where they have to.

That statement by North was obviously sarcastic and very unprofessional IMHO.

It was pretty facetious. How long are they going to hold a grudge?

Had to laugh at some Port supporters suggestions that it's about the 1989 grand final.. Riiiight.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Off the top of my head, the fact that Port stabbed all the other SANFL clubs in the back, the fact that Port and the SANFL did stuff all to help North when they were almost dead, the fact that the Power have been anything but helpful to North when it comes to Power listed players at Prospect, the fact that the Power or SANFL commission have kept quiet from the clubs who ARE the SANFL about the monies lost with the Power, the fact that North have a very self centred board/admin these days. That's 5 that would all have a lot more bearing than any GF result. Port's poor BBQ would have more of a bearing than any football game.
Not saying any of their reasonins are right but you'd have to be extremely stupid to think the 89 Grand Final result had anything to do with their stance especially considering the president of our board played in 2 winning Grand Finals against Port and wasn't even at the club in 1989.

And remember that Port have the lowest Grand Final score in the history of the competition.

North have beaten Port two of the last 3 times they have met in the Grand Final, so I don't think it would have anything to do with 1989.

What about the fact Port spent many years building an "us against the rest" mentality that is possibly about the bite them squarely on the backside? That's the biggest reason in my book - you love us or hate us, but if you hate us we still want you to help us. Suffer in your jocks, the hole has been dug in Alberton with a shovel bought from Mitre 10 Port Adelaide by the Port Adelaide Football Club(s). Climb out, stay in, whatever.

So apache, the Magpies in 97 having to find new revenue streams and sponsors is similar to the Dogs doing what they did in 64 in an area with no other clubs or major sporting organisations to compete against?

You seriously believe that?

In 64 you had no AFL to compete with nor the current economic issues that the world faces. No competition from other major codes ( Cricket,A-League etc ).

Back on track --

Would the deabte be this passionate if the club struggling at SANFL level and looking to form on off field relationship with and AFL based club was South or West?
