I found it interesting analysing these figures and have come up with some interesting information:

The Eagles from 1999 - 2008 recorded a massive growth in membership from 825 in 1999 up to 2013 which as an increase of 144.00% which is the biggest in the league, the next biggest increase being North Adelaide with an increase of 132.41% and Central also recorded a growth of a very healthy 99.91% but one perhaps would have expected a bigger growth considering the amount of success they have had within this time frame on the other end of the scale however Norwood dropped from 2177 in 1999 to 2000 in 2008 which is a decrease of 8.13 and are the only club in the competition to do this some big work will need to be done out there to fix that issue. An alarming sign was the small amount of growth made by Sturt at 3.09% and Port Magpies at 4.26%. It is also evident that more work needs to be done by the marketing departments of Glenelg, West Adelaide and South Adelaide all recorded growths but a lot of work ahead.

Not quite EHL, the Bays were 2500 in 2009.

I wouldn't just look at the percentage increase alone. The Eagles came off an extremely low base in '99 and the Bays actually had better numbers in the years they were bottom compared to the Eagles who were playing in GFs.

Interesting numbers nevertheless.

2504 to be exact, exactly 100% increase on 2002. I'm expecting a slight drop this year after our finish to 2009.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Were membership numbers much bigger in the SANFL heyday? My sense is that the membership issue has been seen as much more important of late (in the AFL era and emanating from the AFL) and that it wasn't such a big deal if you followed a club without being a member. Happy to be corrected.

Whilst I don't have an official number from the club, was told today that SAFC memberships were up 26% than the same time last year.

Noted, also a period of very dismal performances by the club both on and off the field, not to mention no members facilities at the Parade.

Things are rapidly moving in the right direction, the club is very close to debt free (1-2 years tops), new lighting on the ground fully ready for our first home game in 2010 and an announcement of a 3 story members facility at the ground to be completed by seasons start 2012.

On the field, things have also started turning around, a new attitude started by Jarrod Cotton (who will be sadly missed at the NFC) but I am sure will be reinforced by new coach Freddy Basset

If you recon we need to do some work, we have, and it all started 5 years ago. Called working our buts off to get out of strife.

:) Time to start reaping what we have sewn.

Cheers,

Glenelg website currently shows 737 members, which is way down on last year's number of over 2000. This year I haven't received an account though, only an email advising of the new online payment option. Maybe GFC people are waiting for the traditional paper reminder - I'm not sure, but hopefully when the trials start it will prompt people to put their hand in their pocket.

Do all clubs charge about the $50 level that the doggies charge?

Good point, not only do different clubs charge different amounts for differing returns more importantly clubs report figures differently as some include freebies they give out such as life members where others don't. Any sort of membership numbers comparison between clubs is largely a waste of time. Income generated from memberships while still being flawed would be a better comparison. Outside of Annual reports I wish anyone good luck in getting them.

Magpies at 4118 but by all accounts the website isn't keeping up. Well over 5000 is the actual figure I believe.

( and No OTR, that's not from Rucci's article  )

I agree. I don't think any club is going to hang their hat on their membership tally. Income generated and bums on seats at games is what's required.

Yep - Port has been on 4118 for the last 3-4 days. However, it would be better to see 5,000+ supporters regularly at Alberton and following the Mapies around on game day this season.
