how can the standard dropping effect different clubs in different ways? if anything the standard supposedly dropping, causing less quality players to be availabls should make it harder for a club to maintain such a high consistency. it may make it easier to "jag" a lucky premiership if all of the good players end up in the one place at the one time, but to make it to the last game for ten years straight is not lucky. it is making the best of what is available.
every year centrals lose players form their premiership side, and replace them with mostly home grown players (and a select few targeted from elsewhere) yet they maintain their high standards. personally i think people that try to de value their dominance with the "diminished standard" defence is clutching at straws.
Ps, i do hate you guys(meaning centrals), but i do admire the achievent, and no one will ever be able to take it away from you.......bastards!!

Very well said tipper

I am also not convinced that the standard has actually dropped, the above was based on the assumption that it had.
in reality we may not have the same number of "the best players" as they are in the afl, but i would be willing to bet that todays fringe players are at a higher standard than in years gone by. Sanfl is virtually a full time commitment nowadays when you include the training, weights and fitness sessions that are a compulsory part of playing. no longer do you see players having a smoke in the huddle during the game etc. the sanfl has never been more proffessional.
In reality all of the nine clubs are playing in the same league, in the same city.regardless of the percieved "standard". arguments can be made for it being higher or lower, it is like the who is the better player argument when comparing players form different eras, the argument will never be settled.(unless someone is being compared to Barry Robran, he always wins that one

)
it isnt as if centrals play against teams that the rest dont. we have all had our chance to step up and end their dominance, off the top of my head, over the last 10 years i reckon every team has played at least one final, but only 2 sides have beaten them when i counted, but they still bounced back.
it is up to the rest of the clubs to raise their standards above that of the dogs and put them back in their kennel. i dont think they plan on changing their ways, and why would they? i know for a fact if it was north with 8 from 10 i wouldnt be saying how about we let someone else have a go this year
