You can mock all you want but my intent is I would hate to see the Dogs artificially brought to the pack back because they they are so good. You should embrace and aspire to excellence not curtail it.

Yes the last two years have been bitter sweet for us at the Bay, just like 1995-96 were for you lot. Under Rubbers we aren't after short term success we want long term success. If we have to go backwards to go forwards so be it just like 97-99 for the Dogs. That may be the price we have to pay but we know what we want and we will get it. Our problems in September 2009 were all self inflincted we fix ourselves we know we can be successful.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Do you honestly think he would be on more money than Matty Slade was on.

Also as said previously Central only ever sign players to one year deals including the Gowans nothing unusaul or strange there.

I would have thought the amount of money slade was on would be going to Dutschke and Spurr

South might be emulating North from the mid to late 90s in losing 2 magarey medalists, Boyd is a gun and who can blame him for wanting to play with the Dogs?
If you were offered the same or more money to play league Footy with Geelong instead of Melbourne what would you do?

Gee Whatever I hope you can recover from your selective amnesia (my apologise in advance if you're only ten years old). Recruit a player from another club after doing stuff all recruiting over the last couple of years and you come up with that. I think Central have been one of the better clubs in producing and getting the best out of their local talent.
What about Phil McGuiness, Hargraves to name a couple ?
I guess we've lost our fair share of players to other clubs to name a few, Hamblin, Rae, Coulter, Pfitzner, kreig 1, Cook, Hart, Kreig 2, Demasi, Mckinnon, that full forward to West (can't remember his name), could go back to Robertson, Stevens, Connelly, Trigg etc.
However, Whatever, glad you hate Centrals as it means success as opposed to pity.
I think you'll find recruiting from other SANFL clubs more prevalent as the AFL make it harder to get VFL players.
Haven't the other SANFL clubs recruited from within the SANFL ?
Schwarze, Parry, Elstone, Hassan, Welsh, the names mentioned above, have a look at this year alone in the ins and outs thread.
It would make an interesting thread (maybe) players over the last ten years that have switched clubs within the SANFL. I think also looking at the previous thirty would prove your post quite hypocritical.

Maybe Boyd inherited Slade's brown paper bags as well?

It's amazing how clubs who recruit players always say the player came to them for reasons other than money ;)

On the other hand, most clubs say they miss out on recruits because they couldn't match another club's offer :?

Just a general observation, not particularly about the Boyd situation.

True, but would the clubs really know what the other clubs were offering them, they would only be going by what the player tells them his getting offered by another club remembering that the player would have his own agenda.

Probably not just an observation but reality especially when it comes to Central and even moreso with a player leaving South.

If you offered me 30k to play at Noarlunga and I also got offered 20k to play at the Dogs Id be on my way straight up Main North Rd.

Matching another club's offer may include other factors than money. It has been suggested that the dogs missed out on Grima because of lifestyle considerations - apparently he wanted to live near the sea. Other considerations may be that a player wants to play for a successful club or for a certain coach. There is not that much money sloshing around SANFL clubs that money dominates the decision process. My view is that a player who is soley motivated by money is not the sort of player that I would want to see recruited by the dogs. We have a successful culture and that is what must be protected and nurtured. I am sure that the coach and management are cognisant of this when they recruit.

I always think it's hilarious to read people making comments about recruiting, what players get paid, what other clubs offered that same player and salary cap. It just shows that people know nothing, and just believe what they hear.

Perhaps Boyd did tell the Eagles centrals offered him more money. That doesn't mean that it's true. Perhaps he was seeing if he could get an offer he couldn't refuse?
