Is SAFC Imploding? - Sampson Gone

All discussions to do with the SANFL

What was a potential conflict of interest for Brenton Honor in mixing his SAFC & media roles seems to have blown wide open this time.

The Sunday Mail is also guilty of misleading readers. When Brenton writes his season previews & mid season reviews the SM should advise the position he holds at South. When they quote him as South Football Director a mention of dual his role as SM SANFL expert would be expected in order to give readers full disclosure of how his perspective is framed

Here's the article,

Clay must lift game: Panthers

Scott Walsh,

The Panthers have laid it on the line to Coach Clay Sampson demanding he lift his game to seal a new contract at seasons end. Despite claiming it is "two thirds" the way to re-appointing Sampson, South Adelaide Football Director Brenton Honor says he has left the former Crow in no doubt of what the bottom placed club expects for the rest of the season. "Its fair to say (Sampson's) commitment, there are concerns with, but we understand the pressures he's under." Honor said "He's got another job and a young family, so there are reasons why his commitment perhaps isn't at the required level.. "

What a poorly worded letter.
Clay must be feeling really good about the club right now.

None of that should be made public and puts Sampson in a supremely difficult position.

Now everything that happens will be aired in the media, here and everyewhere and will be speculated on as to how it impacts on his chances to retain the job.

That is an untenable position and if it were me, I would tell them to shove their job and go find a new coach (if they can get one who wouldf be remotely interested) and who is happy to be put on notice in such a public manner.

If they do give him the flick, who is going to want the job after they treat blokes in this way?

And if they want more time out of him, then yeah pay him accordingly, so he doesn't have to consider how it affects his livelihood.

South top boffins don't know how to manage a pimple on the arse of a Football Department.

In a lot of work places it would be bordering on harassment.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Well that's timely.

South's final 4 games are vs the Eagles (Thebbie), Central (Hamra Homes), Port (home) and North (Prospect). A nice easy run home for Clay to deliver his KPIs.

At the start of the year, you'd think they'd have wanted Clay to win say 4-6 games for the year at least. A tough road to meet that KPI. Sounds like the Board is getting the members ready for an announcement.

One can only presume Mr Honor was misquoted in the Sunday Mail.
Surely the Chair of Football operations should not question the commitment of the incumbent coach in the media. Particularly when you are referring to Clay Sampson and his commitment to South Adelaide. Particularly when Sampson is under pressure to keep a job which he took at the behest of the all knowing Football Department. He chucked in his full time job to take on the halftime coaching role , despite the fact he has 4 young children to support; a role in which he has had little support in the way of recruits from the FOC.

Now they are asking him (publicly) to show more commitment!!!!!!!!!!
As a long time supporter of the club I find this is totally embarrassing, and being a South supporter that is saying something.

Would Clay be thinking about applying for the Eagles job (part time) or the Norwood job (full time)?

Knowing some guys at South Burgess is the reason some fringe league and young reserves players have left the club. Has no communication skills and has little respect around the club. If Burgess takes Sampson's job then South might struggle to win a game next year let alone have a Senior squad left.

You are correct but............ the circumstances under which they leave South Adelaide will be much different.
The club is a "basket case" only some people just don't want to accept that!
Keep everything under wraps as long as you can, it will make it appear much better for the hierachy at Noarlunga. A disgrace to say the least!

Believe what you will D&W, I put it out there, let's see what transpires eh! A fair bit of the story doing the rounds at the moment and we are getting some South adelaide "spin" to cover their tracks. Funny about that!

Why would you give up your job to go full time at South (coaching)????

Its not like there is any job security is there.

What really makes me angry is as a member of the South Adelaide Football Club (or...Panthers....or whatever....all a big diverson off the real issues at the SAFC!!)....is I received the email to state the situation at the club at present and the issues with the coaching position and giving Sampson KPI's.....now that is one of the reasons why I become a member of the club. To get information that other clubs, supporters and the public dont receive. Too find some of the contents of that letter printed in the Sunday Mail is an utter disgrace and an "slap in the face" to members of the football club. It made me wonder, why the hell did I become a member??? ....something I will think about when I renew in 2010. (if I ever do!!)

The FOC and board should be ashamed of leaking that letter out to the public at this stage of the season.

Let Sampson finish the year then access where the club is heading......

The club has gone soooooo far backwards since the Cahill saga....it is beyond a joke. The WHITEANTS have set in for good!!!!

No wonder players are leaving and getting in players is a task in itself.

Shame SAFC....bloody Shame!!!!

The club was a joke before that & Cahill's saga just topped it off.
The best thing for the comp is demote them to the Amateur League, if they run a club like Amateurs their better off being in it.
They may win a few more games anyway & the SANFL need an 8 team comp.
