Mickan's comments on the ANZAC day game in today's members email from the club:

Saturday's ANZAC Day game against Central was embarrassing for
the players and coaches of Glenelg. The performance was a long way
removed from the fighting spirit that we Australians all reflect on and
celebrate on what is perhaps the most significant day of this nation's
calendar.
The score at the conclusion of the game reflected appropriately the
way in which we were thrashed in every aspect of the game.
Particularly hurtful was our poor effort in the areas of contested ball,
work rate, pressure skills and ball handling and disposal skills.
It is for me to work with the players to illicit a response. The initial
response will be seen on the training track. The game at Noarlunga
against South this Sunday will be the next opportunity to respond in a
game.
I apologise to all sponsors, members and supporters for the inept
ANZAC Day performance by the Glenelg Football Club Senior team
.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Hinge did more to James than what James did. Realistically James should have been given the free kick for being dragged off the ground(what exactly did james do that was worthy of a free kick against him.), but it looked like the umpire was waiting to give the free kick against him as usual.

The vision doesnt show him dumping Macca after disposal...

at halftime when the brothers were walking off the ground they were both verbally and physically abusing each other

No doubt he was clearly in the back of Macca after he kicked the goal so it was played advantage goal. John Hinge then came over, and rightfully so, to look after his team mate and scragged James off Macca. That technically should have been a free to Mr Gowans and of course, he didn't like being man handled by Hinge so retaliated giving away a free kick for apparently too high before co-captain Paul Thomas stepped in front of him defussing the situation by telling him to get to the bench.

You can't see the supposed too high contact in the vision, then on top of that, James gets involved in push and shove with Mouse, Kourky, Duldig and apparently Hinge when a 25 metre penalty is awarded and Mr Hinge walks into an open goal to kick the Bays 2nd in 30 seconds. Not sure that the 25m penalty was there, perhaps it was Rowston trying to stamp his authority on the play. As for the Gowans twins going off at each other Dutchy, they do it every bloody week, it has become a regular thing and can get quite serious (and physical) at times !!??

Obsessed much mate?

They fight daily and we seem to have our best results when they are getting stuck into each other.

It is a great shame that Central managed to acquire both of the Gowans' services.

I've always thought it would be superb entertainment to see them line up on each other wearing different guernseys.

Apart from the possibility of lining up against each other in internal trials, I think the boys have always played in the same team, but you are right, it would be very interesting to see them go toe to toe on opposite sides...

"I thought Williams attack on the ball was brilliant. I was a bit worried when in the first quarter Glenelg got two goals from free kicks that this could be a sign of things to come. First free, fair enough, second free against James, what a farce. However, it didn't matter in the end."

Good vision Dutchy.
As I said i couldn't believe it at the time. I think it got Glenelg back within two goals. Second free was a farce. AFL umpire type crap.

That's an understatement.

From what I saw of the footage, Gowans didn't make any high contact with Hinge's head. Therefore, no free, and very bad error by Rowston.

The other umpiring pearler was that 'mark' paid to a Glenelg player in the third quarter.

Its funny i wrote this once before, it's funny that when two players grab on to each other and push and shove and wrestle they always pay the to high. For example when Hinge started pulling Gowans of McConnell they didn't pay holding the man BUT when Gowans grabbed Hinge high it's a freekick.

It happens every game to all different players and different teams, so im not complaining, im not even really bothered by it but it is very weird.
