:?
Now let’s see if I’ve got this right.
Westies get Blackwood.
Sturt get Newton.
& Norwood get ?
Oh … of course, Norwood get the SANFL’s best wishes & top recruits - Ben Dover and Phil McCavity !

You're not telling me that Golden Grove is a crap area? What the heck is in Newton? Retired market gardeners and Bianco's Hardware?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Ease up Barto. I don't think you should lose Blackwood. Nor should West be disadvantaged.
I didn’t mention Golden Grove. There’s no complaint about what we’ve got, just what
we’re losing (without recompense?). Don’t knock Newton, Barto. Some pretty good players
came out of Campbelltown High. It’s been heartland for us, so we’ll have it back anytime.
Wonder how you’d feel if Norwood or South (or others) suddenly got Parkside, Fullarton or
Malvern without something in return? It's the same thing mate.
Fair enough ?

let me clarify one thing about blackwood recruits to sturt,Brenton Sanderson( 209 AFL games) did play for blackwoods juniors and made his way to sturt, but, even though his primary school was in the sturt zone,he lived in the south adelaide zone and sturt payed whatever the amount was back then to get him at sturt when he was a 14 yo. so he wasnt actually out of the sturt zone was he!!

So when we do development at a particular club, do we only help the players that live in our zone and play for that club, or do we help all players playing for that club?
Fine he resided in Souths zone but they weren't smart enough to not let him go were they?

this is where the problem with the zones lies though, because the school that he went to was in the sturt zone he was involved right through with all the development squads at sturt even though he resided in the south zone.sturt could have invested alot of time into his development and if he was a south supporter he then could have left and played for the panthers.sturts investment would have counted for nothing to them,im not having a crack at sturt but at the system.

Nah, you're on the money Snaggle, Im sure the club song says nothing about gold but does mention yellow.
Surely the club wouldn't be silly enough to have a song about colours other than its own. ;)

Generally, the players within a zone come to a league club, not so much the other way around. And South would have had no say - if a player wants to transfer and the new club is willing to pay the cash then there is no grounds to stop the transfer.

I'd like to see the population of the 10-19 year olds from the Riverland/Mallee. If the drought and the plight of the Murray is causing people to move off the land, then West's country zone numbers will have dropped significantly, meaning they need to be replaced by somewhere (Blackwood). Can't blame Westies for the impending death of the Murray, and as a result, the shrinkage of their talent pool.

But we can blame the Vics 'coz they're upstream. 20 years on and they're still finding ways to screw with our comp!

Population shift is a major problem in all country areas.
However, the Mallee has a huge issue in that area.
A recent review of player numbers found that some clubs had up to 20 travelling players, or more, in the Mallee's two senior grades.
The junior numbers were exceptionally low - with in some cases up to half the senior colts sides made up of junior colts (which is the 10 to 19 age group), while Karoonda was bringing in a heap of kids from Murray Bridge (Sturt zone) to play for them. These are not exact figures but are fairly representative of what's going on.
This is the reason that Westies were keen for a boundary change.

And, yes, the river issue is certain to provide an off shoot problem for Westies' recruiting in coming years.

It's funny when i was 14 i had a choice between two clubs if i said i lived with mum it who was in Plympton Park I was in Glenelg's zone by two streets. If i said i lived at dad's house I was in the eagle's zone by 1KM and I wanted to play for Westies. So all i did was stick to playing for my hills league club and didn't bother because i wasn't allowed to play because of where i lived.

It is now governed by the Mother's address, no more choice in those situations.

the fee for a transfer of a player starts at $5000 and that is normally done from the U/15 level.
