However, perhaps West would have beaten Norwood if they did not have such a financial debt and did not need the money that the Foxtel Cup offers.
Maybe Norwood are not that good after all?? ;) :D

Congrats to West... the better team won on the day.

Shellshocked would be the correct term for Port supporters at the moment.

The first quarter we were blitzing the bloods and in all reality should have been up 6 goals to 1.

We were in control for most of the 2nd quarter, but a lapse in the last two minutes let you.

In the third quarter, Wests had a purple patch for 5 minutes, but the feeling amongst the supporters was, if we get the first 2 of the final quarter we'll roll over the top of them like we do at North Port.

Then... the final quarter... was completely and utterly pathetic on our behalf.
Blokes dropped their heads, didn't chase and flew the white flag, allowing Wests to have a training drill.

Speaking to a few of the coaches after the game, it was made very clear that a number of blokes who tonight were given the chance to prove themselves and win a seniors spot, just blew their chances and have a very long way to go.

The most frustrating thing (though no excuse, you play the side you out on the park) is our best 11 players sitting in the grandstand watching. As a Port supporter you just wanted one of them out there telling our young blokes to pull their finger and lift.

On the positive, it means we get to work on flaws and have two byes now in the VFL season to work on getting that flag.

In the end, if we lost, I would have liked a 1 or 2 goal loss were we had a crack, but tonight's effort was not worthy of the jumper the boys were wearing.

Congrats to Wests... now go beat those flogs from Claremont!

Well done West - smashed them after 1/4 time. Pity we had to listen to the most patronising commentators I have heard for awhile. They obviously don't rate the SANFL one bit and kept referring to how many players Port Melbourne had out but no mention of the out's for West!

It was like a team from another planet playing their first game and winning it such was the shock for big Bazza and co!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Hats off to West, I say. 17 goals in a shortened-format game is a huge attacking performance by a club that's hardly been known for attacking prowess until v recently. Any time you go out there wearing the club jumper, you put the club's pride on the line, regardless of the competition— and no-one from Norwood (or for that matter Port Melbourne) has suggested otherwise, I don't think. Doesn't matter who you have out, or what comp it's in— if you lace up and get out there, a loss is a loss and you have to suck it up.

Recent results across all comps show that 'thought footy' is a mug's game, i.e.
There couldn't be any serious doubt that at least on 2013 form Port Melbourne > East Freo, and yet
East Freo > Norwood,
Norwood > West, and
West > Port Melbourne!

Wasn't 10 either which makes it even better the way we ran out the game.

Guys who didn't play league or reserves Saturday that played last night were:

Moran
Thompson
Nelson
Kirk

The top 2 have barely played any footy at all this year.

Rankine would've been another but pulled out last night.

Edit: just read arcadefire's post again and read it wrong the first time.

Don't quite think they are flogs. Back to Back Premiers, Top of the table with only 1 loss and they don't have their best team out on the park at the moment. Will beat Southport then play Westies. Hope it's here then will get to see them play live.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.
