Yep weather was great at the beff.

That is a terrible crowd especially considering alot of ammo teams are done for the year and there was definatly a fair few of them there yesterday.

Here's a thought. The SANFL clubs play their best players in the reserves side and have their reserves players play in the league side. Move the Reserves to 2.10 and the League to 11.15.

Some of the reserves teams would probably knock the Crows off too. They will be very average next year.

Heard the local Ballarat footy show on the radio and they were talking about the biggest crowd and best atmosphere North Ballarat has ever had at a home game. It was last week against Collingwood that’s right an AFL reserves side. They also said they are hoping to host more blockbuster games against AFL reserves sides in the future. Apparently there was a plenty of Collingwood supporters that made the trip as Collingwood had an interstate game. I wonder could that happen in the SANFL….

Sorry if this has been answered before, but if Crows and Port reserves only play away games in the SANFL, where will they play when they play each other?

Would be rare id imagine.
Collingwood and Essendon Reserves drew under 2000 people to their last game.
Would be a novelty for a few games id imagine but the Crows supporters are widely acknowledged as frontrunners so I cant imagine them going to games to watch their side get flogged week in week out in the rain.

We won't know if any Crows supporters are at games as our scoreboards don't have the facility to tell them when to cheer.

Norwood may well have saved a lot of embarrassment as rumour has it the commission was going to vote YES even if the clubs voted NO and that was a major reason for changing to YES.

I'm anti-AFL reserves in the SANFL as much as the next guy but do you seriously think a Crows reserves team would struggle in the SANFL?

Johnston at FF, Callinan & Johncock in the pockets etc?

If the Cows have no injuries whatsoever they would be competitive. More than a handfull out and they would be in strife.
They could be using up to a dozen top up players each week and these are the reject kids that cant get games in the SANFL. Take this weekend for example, they would of got belted with what they had available. Half of their list are duds that struggle for a kick at league level (McKernan, Ellis-Yeoman, Dowdell etc) and several are playing SANFL reserves they are that poor.

Noticed that the Crows' Twitter account is now protected.

It wasn't two days ago!

Their performances will fluctuate greatly I feel. This would have been their team on the weekend:

Ellis-Yolmen (def)
Dowdell (ruck)
Porplyzia (fwd)
Hartigan (def)
Lyons (mid)
McKernan (ruck/fwd)
McIntrye (fwd)
Tambling (mid)
Graham (ruck)
Martin (mid)
Osborn (NFI)
Siggins (NFI)
28+ year old leader (?)
8 top up players (?)

Cant see people flocking to see that line up play, while with the introduction of another side into the competition the overall standard of the SANFL will suffer.

As a further query to Rucci's article on the weekend, if the Crows make the finals, which top-up players do they then choose? Seemingly they would come from the bottom 4 clubs, but could they choose the best? This team could then be half professional footballers, half a state side (Cross, Liddle, Wundke, Gray, Mieklejohn, Coad) up against a club side.
Why should a player be rewarded with a finals appearance when his club team wasn't good enough? Worse still, how about if the Crows needed to win to make the finals and were playing a team who couldn't, but whose players might be in line for a finals call-up to the Crows? What incentive would certain players have to try against the Crows or even make a few timely "mistakes"?

All good Qs FH. As far as I'm aware the top up players must be nominated by the SANFL clubs at the start of the year, so that will remove the risk of the Liddle etc playing finals for Adelaide. But yes you could have a fringe South player who played a handful of games for Adelaide in the early stages of the year before playing the back-half of the year for South then playing finals for Adelaide if South are bottom four. That's how I read it anyway.

Top ups should be coming from ammos/country footy. Fly a bunch of kids down the APY lands if you have to. Yep this will mean guys are getting gifted SANFL league games their not entitled to, but this will happen with this proposed arrangement anyway. :?

What happens if only 2 or 3 clubs offer up top up players?
