I think the measure of respect among most of the supporters of the vanquished is a huge indicator of how far North have come. They did it the hardest way possible and play a brand of footy I and many others are jealous of. That their style of footy and class of personnel has become the new benchmark says it all.

Not taking anything away from the great Norwood effort in 1984, but they were helped greatly by Alan Stringer and lack of discipline by our boys.
Stringer went the biff in the Qualifying Final between Glenelg and Central when Centrals led by 30 points. Our boys 'lost it' and we ended up having our whole halfback line rubbed out for the First Semi against Norwood (Jamie Thomas, Brett Hannam and STephen Nolan). We still only lost to Norwood by a few points, being less than a kick down in time-on of the last quarter.. Glenelg also lost Peter Carey for their Prelim Final against Norwood.
Cheers

Remembering back I think it was your boy's that we were worried about he most.

REB

Central led Norwood by 19 points at three quarter time in that first semi final before Norwood over ran Central late in the game to win by 13 points.

A quirky aside from Norwood's finals campaign is that in each of the last 3 finals Norwood's opponents had more scoring shots than Norwood.

!st Semi Norwood 16 goals 9 Behinds defeated Central 13-14
Prelim Norwood 16-11 Glenelg 11-23
Grand Final Norwood 15-10 Port 13-13

I guess that shows the value of straight kicking!

And to emphasise again the value of straight kicking
North 19-10
Norwood 15-15

Voting for Jack Oatey medal :

Grigg 23
Schwarz 13
Castree 6
Barns 3
Woodcock 2
Smith 1

Warren Partland (The Advertiser) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Tom Schwarz, 1) Alex Barns
John Casey (Channel 7) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Tom Schwarz, 1) Boyd Woodcock
Zac Milbank (SANFL) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Tom Schwarz, 1) Brock Castree
Peter Walsh (SANFL Digital Pass) – 3) Brock Castree, 2) Mitch Grigg, 1) Boyd Woodcock
Doug Oakley (1079 Life) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Tom Schwarz, 1) Tanner Smith
Stephen Rowe (FIVEaa) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Brock Castree, 1) Tom Schwarz
Rod Jameson (ABC Grandstand) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Tom Schwarz, 1) Alex Barns
Andrew Jarman (Triple M) – 3) Mitch Grigg, 2) Tom Schwarz, 1) Alex Barns

Was P Walsh the only person at the ground who didn't think that Grigg was b.o.g. He was also the only voter not to include Schwarz.

I am surprised Tropiano didn't get a vote.

Anyone who didn’t have Grigg BOG shouldn’t get the job of voting ever again. One of the clearest winners of the medal in memory.

A bit like the 2007 AFL GF where you could buy 118 and get one free, I still have them! :D

Don't try and watch that 19th one though - after 3:39 seconds North realise they shouldn't have sent it to you and someone comes in and takes it away.

Don't they let you keep it and just stop you from watching a couple of next year's games?

They'd like you to restart it but don't have the means ( balls ) to do so.

Thanks Purch, I just did a search and found the 39,813, but you beat me to it.
Good to see two big drawing clubs in the Grand Final

The crowd must have been bigger than they expected given the top tier of the southern stand was closed.
It was open last year.

The top tier would hold close to 10,000 wouldn’t it so surprised at the final crowd.
Anyway great crowd, great day, great footy.
Good advertisement for SANFL footy.

Hate to be anal and I am a couple of months late but the southern stand was closed in 2017 as well.

I just found your post from the 2017 Grand Final thread

I was at the game and I thought circa 30k.
Almost 40k sounds high given the whole southern stand was closed.

Either way a good crowd and a good game of footy.
Port almost pinched it but Sturt deserved the win as they were the better side all day.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.
