From my observations Sturt have been much more prudent with their spending that West in recent years.

On field results have and will show that.

Agree, but on field results dont = $

West have spent beyond their means, Sturt have tried hard to live within their means but economic conditions have worked against them.

Not convinced it does, every club should have a sustainable business model based on the team missing the finals, then if success comes its cream on the top.

Look at South. (and North & Glenelg)

IMO neither West or Sturt promote their clubs/bistro anywhere near enough and do little for the people when they come in. Going to Glenelg, they want you to back and go out of their way for you.

So winning games does help increase revenue.

That Sturt, and West, have recently started selling off their only meaningful assets is a worry.

Wonder what the SANFL are doing?

I too agree that a football club in the modern day needs to have a sound business model, but you would have to think a good club on field will have more options off field. Sponsors, supporters at venues etc etc.

I know winning is not the be all and end all. Look at North Melbourne late 90's early 00's.

Good example, basket case when we won flags, but now posting million dollar profits when not.

Depends how you want to read the financial report...

... I don't like to count the "Debt Demolition" donations, as they are to pay off debt and therefore the club shouldn't be relying on those payments to offset how the business actually faired.

If you take out those donations, loss was around $650K.

Normally I'd do a detailed report of the AGM, but alas I've been marked as someone who has a vendetta against the club. Therefore I'll keep my thoughts to myself, but for the benefit of everyone else, there must be others on here, who as members who attended the AGM, can relay their views, how they saw it, with what was presented, questions asked, answers provided, board misconduct revelations, contract issues with sponsors, constitutional changes, desire to become Crows reserves, decisions the accountant said we should have taken last year but didn't and what the reasons were for that, confidence in the future etc etc, how Castle Plaza and Barzaar faired and so on... I for one, would be interested to see how other members saw it, see if they thought things were as positive as I saw it.

Nah... the GM has made it clear two years running he is sick of forums discussing the club in a non positive way.

Other things Sturt members could relay is the sports club asset sales, bank negotiations, ato debt, unley council situation... John Halbert speech... hopefully someone also walked around speaking to the vice presidents, club historian, first female board member like I did and can relay that feel for things.

Come on you Blues fans... DISCUSS!!!

You're not being 'negative' ... realistic and asking relevant questions, no crime in that.

Sturt are unfortunately on their knees. I'm not close enough to know the details, but from 15,000 feet, I doesn't look good at all.

If more Sturt members treated the money being p*ssed up a wall by incompetent management as their own money (which it us) there'd be less danger of them being subsumed by the Crows.

Should the same have happened at Norwood there would have been an emergency AGM and a change of Board pretty smartly but, from what I'm lead to believe that's not an option at the double blues.

CS Bowes may be able to confirm.

I'm not sure if the constitution supports a spill of a board. I honestly can't remember and don't have a copy on me.

As for the Sturt members and how they feel, you'll have to ask them on here.

One big tip, don't treat the footy club like a footy club, it should be sold to the public as a community club. At Centrals on a Sunday afternoon/evening, the place is packed with mainly women playing bingo & pokies , women who probably wouldn't even know who Centrals captain is!
