What are people's thoughts on the Howard suspension?

From a "very reliable" source:

Howard pleaded not guilty to forceful high contact on the head region first off. The tribunal decided there wasn't contact with the head but it was still almost front on and high so he was found guilty of an amended charge of "foreceful high contact" ? That in itself is crap - 2 bob each way and the Tribunal is basically saying any contact above the waist near the head region (define that if you can?) is now deemed high contact? I wonder how Cubillo didn't get reported earlier in the season when he shirt fronted Johncock. I can't see how there is much difference after this Howard guilty finding?

North would like to publically comment in terms of how "disappointed" they are with the result but it appears Warren Partland is about to put our an article in storng terms which will cover what North want to say or may still post on the official website.

A shirt-front would be when you strike a player front on in the chest area. Howard's wasn't a shirt-front. His was a charge at a player with his head over the ball from front on which is extremely dangerous and hence why the suspension was put in place. It was more by luck than good practice that Howard avoided hitting the Central player in the top of the head and instead hit him on the top of the shoulder.

I don't care what era or competition it is, that type of thing is too dangerous to let go. Someone will get paralyzed.

Potter got cleaned up last year at Woodville Oval in the same manner. I can't remember whether it was against Norwood or Sturt, but nothing came of it. That's just sending a message that it is ok to charge at someone with their head over the ball.

The bump is a great thing in footy and it is still alive, but there are some situations such as this one when care has to be taken.

lol, that's the point I made yesteday, they've set the standard at the tribunal where you can punch a guy in the face away from the play but you can't hip and shoulder them when the ball's in play and if you are going to hip and shoulder someone you might as well as hit them in the head as you'll get the same penalty.. Absolutely ridiculous, don't get me started again as Im fuming what they're doing to our great game, making it more dangerous and more soft at the same time.

Has been a STAR IMHO over the last month.

2. Passa WILL come in for Salts (& don't worry, Salts will be missed too).

3. Rain... Rain... Rain... SEND IT DOWN Hewy !!!
The wetter the better for OUR guys... means a tight, hard struggle in close & thats the ONLY way (not rain but tight, in close) the Eagles will beat North... will keep them from playing their fast, handball based running footy.

Can't wait for it !!!

GO YOU EAGLES !!!!

So who would you drop for Vince and Cooper. Or would you play them in the reserves?

Agreed LEH, here's hoping both sides go hard* at it on a heavy ground and smash each other. A few short term injuries and suspensions for North and a couple of four weekers for the Eagles (suspensions and injuries)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Taz... don't worry mate, they'll ALL be fit for you blokes in 3 weeks

I would probably drop Klun for Coop (harsh I know, being his 100th & all, but that can wait, Cooper is a BETTER player IMHO).

What about Groke's in 2nd's, again a tad harsh but has lost a bit of form lately & might fire him up a bit... besides I don't think Ronnie has been too happy with him all year 8) - play Bernie @ CHF ?? - Just thinking outside the square, wet day & all.

Interesting thoughts. Vince probably could do the job at half forward with either Pass or Schwarze next to him. Perhaps it will just be Vince in for Salter?

Still, I reckon Grocke has been sensational for us this year and no way would I be dropping him for any other reason than a rest and it wouldn't be this week against North!

We'll find out in a couple of hours I spose. Unless they name 10 on the interchange bench like they usually do...

Look Aerie... I agree with you re: Grocke this year, been very good as he was last year.

Would they drop a backman & play Vince in the Forward line & Macca down back ??

If you dont drop Giuffreda, who has been good, then perhaps Redden, but he has performed well too.
In defence we have:
Hier is a good defender, to stay.
Stewart 3rd best last week excellent disposals and playing well ,to stay
McKenzie a must and will improve after last weeks run
Redden, not tall but performs well ?
Fiachi tough and reliable, probably will rotate with Powell.
Guiffreda is the last defensive spot left, might stay because of his height and pace. His kicking lets him down on occasions. ??

It might be more of match ups than personel. Powell to play half back maybe at Reddens expense just so Cooper (a match winner and tough nut) can return.
If Vince, and Cooper come in you must drop someone.

Passador seems the obvious choice for Salter who has been outstanding recently

I am not sure RAIN will suit the Eagles tall forward line hopefully I can be proven wrong, and I will be if inkster is still an in .But then again it may affect Norths running game more.

For the last few weeks we Eagles fans have been saying bring in this one leave out that one.Ron has not had to change this line up in weeks which has lead to a more stable side.I know he brought in inkster and macca last week to cover afl etc.
Passador for Salter that is a given maybe !
Do we know if Cooper is fit .
Is Vince playing for us this week or the Crows ?Is macgregor back for the crows or another in for the eagles ?

Nice looking team I bet Passador plays between HF and Wing and brings the ball into the forward line as Groeke does . I also think Ron may employ Pagans paddock or a partial paddock with inkster roving at schwarze's feet .

GO U EAGLES bring on saturday!!

You must be loving it Wedgie.
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

They're not the sort of players we need unfortunately, I'd swap both of them for Howard.
If we have to fit 2 of them into our side its really going to stuff things up for us as Wundke and Alleway make a great team up forward. 1 we can handle, but not two and if the Crows force us to start Perrie in the backlines like we did against Port we'll be stuffed. Give me Schubert anyday.
