Good to see footy back. Can't wait til the real stuff starts. I thought Atkinson had Sturt playing a more direct and tougher game when we last played them and they looked a lot better. Everyone seems to rate MacGowan pretty highly so maybe the general consensus of Sturt being '07 wooden spooners is a bit premature. Will be interesting to see how the season pans out.

Well I didn't actually talk to him but I heard Pt Melbourne mentioned at one stage.
Most if not all of the eagles players playing in the Adelaide based AFL clubs come home and watch the EAGLES.I think Ken will have to come back through the Eagless this year :D

I rated MacGowan Highly when he coached the Eagles seconds when he had LEAGUE players returning from injury or unable to break back into the league side .With juniors etc his game plan had problems .Will be interesting to see what happens if sturt get injuries .As I stated in another post in this topic sturts Seconds may struggle again if they couldnt beat an Eagles side without a ruckman for 3 quarters and then not be able to contain there smaller running players.

And Aerie watch those two young indigenous players no 33 and 52 at times they looked magical. :D

Judging by your previous quote Micky, Sturt perhaps also did well in the Magoo's?

They did indeed, infact after the first two goals by WWT they led for most of the game. Something happened where WWT suddenly started not to bomb the ball in long and high and ran more. But hey that was the magoos .
WWT did lose the league trial. But it was only a trial after all .If you look at the AFL Carlton seem to win the NAB cup and still finish 16th.

Look forward to seeing them. Do you know where they're from and what their names are? Also Petrenko is partly indigenous and from what we've seen in the ressies last year, can look forward to watching him add some pace and spark to the league side this season.

I'm probably missing someone, but I can't remember a decent aboriginal footballer playing for us since Kevin Hill and Michael Long with the old Eagles in the 80's?

I think the last one we had playing for us was around 1994 or so - Tom Weetra

He came from Darwin and actually looked to be a good player. He only played a handful of games but found it tough to break into the side that year due to us having a strong team

14 non starters due to niggles and a tummy bug.
Expect quite a few more available next week.
Christian Grocke - will know more on Monday after scans - fingers crossed hopefully wont be too bad.

Membership now over 1220 - best we've had at this time of the year in my time as membership director so thanks to all who have renewed/ joined - hopefully heading for another record year for our membership total. Remember free members night coming up Tuesday April 3rd.

14 non starters. Who were they?

One was H.Skipworth

He is playing in the VFL and not on our list .But he was sitting in the stands with Ken Mcgregor.
If you looked at the two WWT teams on saturday our league team from last year was really split in two .Plus we did have players out like ruckmen and i would point out that big Lindsey played the first quarter in the seconds then he played on and off in the league game.
And Cd do you have any word on C Grocke ?

I was going to say 13 to go, but make that 14 to go.
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.
