#1 and #2 both say that any pre-existing contracts don't need to be torn up. Summerton is on the last year of a 3-year deal in 2016. Then (presuming the rules stay the same) he can just be moved over to rolling one-year contracts from 2017 on.

Butcher is a hindrance to port. As an oposition you want him playing. Port wont be a threat in finals.

PORT Adelaide plays West Adelaide in the first weekend of SANFL finals.

Under qualification rules revised by the SANFL this year, the eligibility of AFL players to play in the League’s major round require a player to have played the majority of his season in the state competition, including three games after June 30.

At the end of the 2015 minor round, the following players meet those criteria:

2. Kane Mitchell
11. John Butcher
14. Paul Stewart
15. Karl Amon
17. Tom Clurey
22. Mason Shaw
25. Logan Austin*
26. Andrew Moore
30. Sam Colquhoun
31. Mitch Harvey
32. Dougal Howard
33. Darcy Byrne-Jones
34. Jarrad Redden
37. Jesse Palmer
38. Billy Frampton
43. Johann Wagner
44. Tom Logan
46. Sam Gray
47. Sam Russell

All of the club’s SANFL-contracted players are eligible to play finals as long as they have played in at least three League or reserves-grade games.

All 15 contracted Magpies will be available to play:

1. Steven Summerton
4. Ben Sawford
5. Tom Gray
6. Sid Masters
7. Louis Sharrad
8. Zac Hawkins
9. Luke Wilson
10. Luke Reynolds
16. Sean Davidson
18. Jack Haarsma
19. Ciaran Hollingworth-Hughes
21. Jonathon Ross
23. Sam Gordon
29. Anthony Biemans
50. Robbie Young

Sam Gray and Moore really? Well that will suck some balls as those guys will really kick there midfield in to gear FFS.

Seriously Sam Gray has been killing it at AFL surely he'll get put on ice at the end of the season.

It's a rort/creative reading of the rules to have him in the list anyway. "Matt Duldig said the SANFL’s finals qualification rules required AFL-listed players to play more SANFL matches than AFL matches across the season, including three games after June 30." Link. 'The season' must refer to the AFL and SANFL H&A season, otherwise the rule makes no sense. If 'the season' refers only to the SANFL H&A season, then in counting up the games you would ignore any AFL H&A games played before the SANFL season starts, and presumably also ignore any AFL H&A games played during any SANFL bye—a nonsense result.

Now Sam Gray has played 10 SANFL and 9 AFL matches for the season. Like any Port AFL-listed player, he could play at either level this weekend because the AFL team is still alive. (The rules also spell that out.) If he plays AFL this weekend, he has played 10 SANFL and 10 AFL H&A matches for the season. He will not have played more SANFL than AFL matches across the season. He should not qualify for subsequent finals.

The whole thing is a farce - surprised Kochie and Keith Thomas have complained that they cannot field their entire AFL starting 22 in the SANFL finals given they are "1 Club". It wouldn't surprise if they requested this and knowing our weak SANFL leaders they would agree after all they caved into allowing the ridiculous rules that Port have re their Reserves entry. May as well bend over further so the AFL clubs can **** the SANFL even more than it presently does!

Maybe a little OTT but who would be shocked if something like this occured given the events of 2 years ago re the Reserves debate / saga plus the fact Port have somehow managed to coninually have rules that suit them only without regard to integrity and fairness.

Sam Gray and Kane Mitchell will only be eligible if they get dropped from the Power this weekend.
