Umpiring was awful for both sides but Central clearly got the wrong end of the stick yesterday, which was also noted by a couple of westies fans sitting right next to me.

As a neutral supporter.
I thought Centrals got the better of the umpiring.

And while we're at it. It amazes me how the Gowans twins are in the umpire's ears all day & giving out dirty little cheap shots hear & there, & getting away with it.
I've seen players from other clubs copping 25m penalties merely for muttering abuse at umpires while standing a mark.
Its unbelievable that they get away with monstering the umpires, their over the top whinging & swearing & continuing on with after the siren for the breaks.

Cant blame the Gowans boys though. They do what they do.
Its the Umpires fault. They should be on to them right from the start of the match to shut their shit down.

Yeah anyway thats how I see it.
you might think its bollocks ;)
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

Completely agree that the umpiring did not cost Centrals the game nor gift it to Westies.

But it's hard to watch forum members suggest that Centrals got the better of the umpiring when it was a 26/16 count. And the Dogs got 4 in the last where they already had possession (eg. mark already taken, free kick signalled for interference etc.), and these tend to look like evener-uppers. There should be no talk of "playing in front" as the cause either, as with a similar number of scoring shots and inside 50's etc, you can't do that by being behind all day. Same last week, same suggestion made, similar stats and 23/9 against Centrals.

Anyway, we always say the umpiring is good when we don't notice it. Not the case yesterday I'd venture. For example "fighting continues" is not a reason for another and another and another 25m penalty - why on earth would that encourage half of those fighting to stop?

But I can't believe Tony Dey is a crook. Just not very good at his job perhaps.

I think it was a 25m penalty to begin with, then because the fight was still going, a further 2 x 50m penalties. So 125m all up...

I was astounded by that decision. Two teams fighting - notwithstanding the cause - and one team gets penalised. That was the worst decision of the day for mine.

id say its one of the worst decisions ive seen all year, including the Rodan dive (perhaps Rodan wished he was in the Olympic team).

and i had no interest in the match at all, no financial bias just a neutral observer

The one in either the first or third quarter can't remember was pretty bad. West kicking to the Southern end got a free between half back and back pocket. Got a 25 metre I think because the ball wasn't given back on the full, and the man on the mark was taken back 50 metres. I thought the umpire was trying to be an AFL wannabe or just confused.
Also they should throw the ball up! There was about 7 recalls and there should have been more.

That was right after the West player stomped on a Centrals players head. The Central players were going crazy at the umpire and I don't blame them. At least Obst was facing Tippett when he hit him unlike your gutless player, stomping on someone's head.
