Still had enough chances to win

Not disagreeing but that statement also applies to North - Stewart and Johnston both missed 3 relatively easy set shots that you expect AFL listed players to nail on a day where there was no wind or enviromental factors.

Funny how those players including Newton would nail them at training or during the warm up yet the match pressure changes the mindset!

Mal, you and Bode have the same homework this week, Australian Football law 15.2.3

Not going to comment about previous decisions but like footballers umpires can't worry about previous mistakes (if they make them) have to focus on the next act of play and the umpire in this case got it spot on.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

This is the headline from the Adelaide Now website re the match "They were lucky, that's all"

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/north-delivers-legs-first-loss/story-e6freckc-1226389963431

Norwood coach Nathan Bassett was left lamenting poor kicking in defence and attack, and conceding 34 free kicks, in his first loss this year - but claimed North was ``lucky'' to escape with the two points.

``If we're going to lose, losing that way doesnt worry me too much,'' he said. ``I feel like we played reasonable footy.

``I thought we played better footy than the other team. That game, we win nine out of 10 times. They were lucky, thats all. They were lucky today.''

Not sure that I agree with him, but I guess at least he spoke his mind.

Not a fan of the disrespect he often shows our opposition though

His comments smack of arrogance and compare them to those attributed to Francou and it makes Bassett look like a tool and a poor loser! Lucky my arse!

Can't believe Bassett has said that! Regardless if he is right or not, would surely give North some ammunition for next time and possibly a meeting deep in September?

Top 3 spot is definitely up for grabs between West, North and Glenelg. Doubt any others could make it now.

A real killer for the Eagles to see North win. Lose either of next two games and it is season over.

I hope the Norwood officials actually question why he would make such arrogant and immature comments??? We used to bag Jars when he was coaching us for ridiculous statements in the media but he never stooped so low (nor have I ever read any other coach comment similar) nor so condesendingly as Bassett has!

11 rounds in and Nwd lose their first game by a point and he makes those comments??? Norwood fans would want to hope he delivers a flag because god knows what he will say if he loses a final.

Is that any different to a lack of discipline? He should have just kept those thoughts to himself until tomorrow. How often do comments in the heat of the moment come back to bite? Keep it till tomorrow and if it's still worth saying then at least you've thought about it a bit. Saying something like that right after a game is not really different to a player talking back to an umpire.

I agree with MAL, no problem with the law but pay them all or none at all. Bode was stupid and cost us but I cant blame him if he was a frustrated as most of the crowd (both sides) were tearing their hair out. The umpiring today was like a lucky dip, you never knew which way the decisions would go, one ump was constantly behind play and was guessing most of the time. Players get dropped if they have a poor game, time for Deboy to have a month in the ressies

AmBays
You seem to know all the rules

Whats your decision ?
A player marks the ball, turns around, plays on, just gets past his opponent
The opponent tackles him by the ankle and trips him, the player disposes of the ball
Whats the decision ?
A play on ?
B pay the trip ?
C pay a trip and a 25m penalty ?
D if the ump does not call play on is it 25 m or 50m penalty /
E report for a trip, even though it appears it was not intentional
F Disagree somehow on whatever becoz I posted

I think Bass was only saying what he genuinely thought, sometimes the best side doesnt win, if thats what he thinks then so be it. Ive heard him earlier in the year say we were lucky to win as the other side deserved to win. I think he believes we were the best side today and with a bit of composure infront of the sticks we would have got the win.
Im sure you North fans dont need Bass to tell you that you played well, enjoy your victory.

As an impartial viewer (i hate both these teams just as much as each other :D ), I didn't think the umpiring had an impact on the result.

Players just need to get on with it and if they react stupidly then there's no excuse. The 2 holding the ball decisions against Batsanis in front of goal were spot on.

Yes, Bode was unlucky to not get a holding the ball against Thiele but he got what he deserved, just for stupidity alone ... no-one to blame but himself.
