Interesting incident right on the quarter time siren.

Before the siren, Staple had a free/mark (?) about 50 out on a tight anlge. Took a little bit of time causing the umpire to call play on. Siren went, Staple took his kick after the siren, though at all times stayed on his line. A point was kicked and counted.
Is this an error, or was the umpire right due to some obscure rule?

I was on the outer wing and noticed the exact same thing and said to my mate that the point shouldn't be counted as the umpire called play on. As soon as he heard the siren he should have called time and signalled no score. That's my opinion anyway. Be interesting to find out official ruling.

I think you are the one who is undecided. If you are referring to Fraser Evans he was definitely having a shot at goal-as you pointed out in your original post on this subject.

Not the point. Grocke on many occasions takes far too long for a shot on goal, never did the Umpires hurry him up. What's the time they have until a warning 20sec? Even at 30sec the ump seemed more infatuated with him than worry about the rules.

Agree Grocke takes too long, but we all know they give whoever is having a shot for goal longer than in ordinary play.

No, Evans passed it off. Admittedly I was up the other end, but he would have been 55-60mt out.
