Personally I don`t like it when a current SANFL coach takes over the reigns.
It should be left to an Ex SANFL or up and coming coach, due to maybe a conflict of interest.
No disrespect to Goddin as he has already proved himself.

And Micky G certainly has that. As said in the article, there is a chairman of selectors to make sure there is no view on a bias view given to eagles players, which Micky G would certainly not do anyway. I loved it how he said only passionate SANFL people will represent the comp this year. Hope this is the case because it will make victory a lot more attainable. Quality coach, quality person and this is a quality appointment.

Mick spoke at members night at the club tonight and said if there is a decision to be made between two players and one is an Eagles player he would leave it to the chairman of selectors to decide, for two players from other clubs it will be his call.

A good little diversion for God to gain a refreshed mindset well out from the Finals ; even Premiership coaches would at certain times need to re-boot away from the same old players week in week out and its a nice opportunity to see the best from the opposition clubs and what their capable of close up ! Being a full time coach is the key to it not being an issue at the Eagles ( unless we have hit the wall )

ROWEY IN THE HOT SEAT

Former Glenelg assistant and 5AA media personality Stephen Rowe has been installed as chairman of selectors for the state team.

Rowe, coach Michael Godden, and assistants Jarrod Cotton (forward coach), John Platten (midfield coach) and Peter Caven (defence coach), will meet this Thursday and plan to announce an initial squad of about 35 players the following week.

Rowe said players selected in last year's state team - which didn't play a game - had the inside running for selection this year.

``We're using that as a starting point, but there's seven players unavailable from that side,'' Rowe said.

``And those players (still available) will need to maintain their form and fitness.''

Rowe said first year SANFL players, which in the past had been overlooked for selection, could be picked for the game against Western Australia at Glenelg on May 26.

``The only instructions we've been given is to pick the best possible side,'' Rowe said.

``We'd like to pick guys that are in form.''

Missed a great opportunity. Rowe as chairman of selectors and Andrew jarman as coach. What circus that would have been.

On a serious note, why do they need a coach and 3-4 assistants for one game?
