Very good draw.

Changing South's night games to mostly Fridays will maximise the crowds. State game at night a good move, finals on Saturdays good move, Centrals get their night games and the three brave clubs battling it out on the world stage get seven day breaks.

Everyone plays the same amount of games, everyone has the same amount of byes, and everyone has the same amount of home games.

Where does it say Saturday finals?

"Weekend of" could mean Sunday still, couldn't it?

There'd be two byes in 2012. Glenelg games.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

A pretty simple point that none of the AFL apologists on here seem to want to address.

One can only guess at their motives.

An unworthy leap of logic, topsy.

Calling those who disagree with you 'AFL apologists' is just illogical name-calling.

Which reminds me, you haven't answered any of my questions, or named any names ;)

Careful, that kind of talk is amounting to heresy around here at the moment.

The State Game time slot is not quoted on the fixture.

Personally I expect it will be a day game

Not sure how you figure this, removing games from the highest drawing team at the best attended oval and handing them to South Adelaide would seem to achieve the polar opposite.

Heretical I know.

Norwood can apply to the SANFL to have any of their home matches moved from an afternoon timeslot to a night game if they wish, West Adelaide had no problems in having fixtures changed along these lines last season.

Not so long ago several Norwood supporters were expressing their anger that the club had to carry the can for night football and felt it was a waste of their time because in the Trevor Hill days they lost most of their night games - guess you cant have your cake and eat it as well?

What amazes me is that the last round of NAB cup games is March 10

Then NAB Cup Grand Final is a one AFL match weekend on March 17

We then have a one AFL match weekend when GWS & Swans kickoff the season on March 24 (rest of AFL Rd 1 the following week March 29-April 1)

So there are two weekends in March with only 1 AFL game

Yet the Foxtel Cup first game is March 31

Why wouldn't you start Foxtel Cup games on March 17, play even 2 or 3 first round matches on both the 17th and 24th .... it would give the Foxtel Cup some great promotion in an AFL vacum AND it would allow for most clubs to get their first Foxtel Cup game done before the state league seasons start.

Because these clubs would then have a max of 3 games left it wouldn't requires such a stretched state league schedule.

I agree with holden78. Woodville Oval is a poor choice for the Anzac Day game, it should be at Thebarton.

Maybe not double, but I think we'd definitely get a bigger crowd (like in 2007). Should be at Thebby.

Because the Foxtel Cup is designed to go between AFL games, not as a stand-alone comp.

I'll write again, Foxtel have paid a LOT of money for TV rights and want to minimise the turn off factor.

Are the lights getting an upgrade there (or have they already been upgraded?) because I remember a 'twilight / night' 6 quarter trial game between Central and the Eagles at Thebby a couple of years ago and the players were complaining about the lack of light then and it was very hard to see the play late in the 6th quarter on the outer side.

I know gridiron is currently being played at Thebby at the moment, anyone been there to be able to comment?

SANFL games are only 4 quarters at a guess.

Oh, gees, thanks Dutchy - I don't know that

I was referring to the fact that the only time I have seen a 'night' game at Thebby, the lighting then was not suffice, hence my question of whether or not they were getting upgraded.

Thanks for answering it above Mickyj.

The draw will never be perfect or suit everyone but at the end of the day you still still have to be good enough to beat your opponents and make finals. Reckon the draw evens itself out over the years.
Is a bit strange to start the season with only two games in round 1 though
