The Magpies' INs look a little thin in that list, but they have picked up Ryan McKenzie.

Eagles sign Robert Eddy

The WWTFC is delighted to announce the signing of former St. Kilda listed player, Robert Eddy for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Robert, 23 played 33 games with St. Kilda, including the two Grand Finals in 2010, after being drafted with selection no. 39 in the 2007 AFL Rookie Draft. He was de-listed at the end of the 2011 season.

Senior Coach Michael Godden said "Robert was our, and from what we know a number of other Clubs, recruiting priority so I am really pleased that we have gotten our man in that respect".

"The skills that Robert has will provide a great deal of flexibility to our team. Although he has been recruited as a midfielder he has the ability to play at both half forward and half back which is important to our structure and I have no doubt he will be a quality player in the SANFL competition".

On his decision to come to the Eagles, Robert Eddy said "When the SANFL competition became a viable alternative for me my preference was to play for the Eagles where I already have some really good relationships from my time in the AFL system. So, I am thrilled that the Club wanted me too".

"Having watched last year's Grand Final, I know that I will be coming into a midfield that has some real depth and I look forward to establishing myself as an important part of it".

Please join us in welcoming Robert to the Eagles.

Obviously there were a couple of SANFL lads taken today and a few in-house changes at SANFL clubs, but I will wait until Friday when the SANFL mini-draft is done before doing a FULL update of the main list.

Defensive Coach announcement

The WWTFC can confirm the appointment of former player John McCarthy as its Defensive Coach for season 2012.

McCarthy played 92 games for North Melbourne and 71 games for Fitzroy between 1986-96 before taking up a role as playing coach of the North Hobart Football Club in the TFL in 1997/98. From here he joined the WWTFC playing 51 games in 3 seasons. McCarthy, who will replace Steven Hall in the role, assisted Hall at The Henley Football Club in 2008.

On his appointment McCarthy said "I’m really excited about getting involved back in Footy, I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a player at the Club and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be involved with the Eagles once again, this time in a coaching capacity."

Senior Coach Michael Godden added "We feel John’s involvement at AFL and SANFL level as a player along with his experience coaching in Tasmania makes him a great fit for the role. It is great to have a person with John’s knowledge at the Club, having played as a key defender for the majority of his career."

Please join the WWTFC in congratulating John on his appointment with the Club.
