I am not sure why this is being even suggest or debated again. Will NOT happen simply due to the costs / logistics involved regardless of discount air fares and sponsorship. If people saw the SANFL paper put together a few years back when it was first mooted and the base costs involved which was easily well over $1m and the impact it would have on the 9 clubs here individually and collectively and the risks involved then you would all understand why it will not happen. If the AFL bankrolled the whole lot then maybe it could be feesible but given their stake and financial input just keeping AFL in SA on it's feet it would be hard to imagine them pouring what would ulitmately be more than the pojected base costs into a second tier comp?

Think that when the dust settles on the player income fiasco that's still dragging out, AFL funding outside of player salary will be reducing not increasing.

We probably wouldn't want the AFL bankrolling it though, it would be a reason for them to exert even more power over the SANFL. We don't want that.

I am hoping that the SANFL commission has people who are more visionary that OTR.

It may cost $1M+ but if it produces benefits that exceed the costs then it should be considered. I don't think many of the people posting on this site realise that footy has gone ahead in the north of Australia while it has marked time in SA.

This was last discussed 3 years ago Apache. Its reasonable to review it again now. There's lots of money in footy but the SANFL takes and increasingly smaller slice each year. Maybe time for a change?

What aircraft are they using?

If this was to go ahead it's imperative some sort of deal with Qantas / Virgin happen. As far as seats go they can only sell how many seats that are available. If they blocked off seats for footy teams like they do in the AFL ( most Perth flights are full too), then it's easy.

A 737-800 can be upgraded to a 767 etc etc....

Buggered if I know, but a couple of times Ive gone up there they have used a bigger plane (which probably goes onto Asia), the one that has a 2-4-2 seat configuration.

Virgin dont fly up there.

I'm heading there in 3 weeks time for a trade night and return flights are costing me just over $800 and I could have got it to under $750 if I had flown to Sydney first for a 2 hour stop over after leaving Darwin at midnight, to be in Adelaide at 9:30 am. No thanks.

Maybe with some new blood in the SANFL, it might be time to look at some of these issues again. Football in SA is hardly booming at present.

Qantas only mate, Qantas only. ;)

BTW, when was this flight for? Did you check that day/time that I need to go, or just any old flight. Hmmm? :D

Perhaps I need to go during school holidays etc.

jetstar leaves Adelaide at 10.30pm and arrives Darwin 1.55am in the morning, dont think footy teams would be taking this schedule.

Qantas are the only ones flying during daylight hours, hence have the market to charge what they want.
