Foxtel Cup!!!!!!

All discussions to do with the SANFL

I'm more than happy to let the club decide what is best for it, but would be good to watch the Eagles play on a national stage, even if the competition isn't as good or as important as the SANFL.

How many extra sponsorship deals did your club gain from being involved in the Foxtel Cup?

What new sponsors have been brought to the club?

Try those club's website, they probably have an email contact on them.
Or get your hands on the Annual Report from last year and this year's when it comes out to compare.

Cheers no probs,

Hindsight is a wonderful thing a TBH i think Kris Grant and the Central crew will be sitting pretty comfortable with their decision not to take part, especially considering all the injuries and the way the season has panned out.

No doubt we would have lost to the bigger VFL or WAFL sides as with all the injuries we had there would have been no way any league player with a niggle would have played. It really would have been a reserves/u/18's type side.

Considering the only sponsor who would have got any major exposure from the Cup was Holden this is a non issue really as the partneship isnt solely based on national exposure.

Hopefully the club will review their decision at the end of the year and not just rule out entering next year straight away. I would like them to at least consider the idea each year and if they feel its best for the club then make the decision.

Will add as well that judging by the Port, North and West selected sides throughout the comp that even the clubs involved werent 100% committed to how serious they would take it.

It was definatly considered second in importance to the SANFL Premiership which if the AFL have a dream of this being a 'champions league' type comp they need to change. You would never see a Man U rest players in the Champions League because they had a upcoming fixture against Bolton away.

Perhaps if Glenelg did participate this year they may have won a final ;)

Well wasnt the purpose of the comp to bring all the best placed sides from around Australia's state leagues together to determine who was the best state league side.

replace Australia with Europe and the idea of the comp is the exact same.

to bring all the best sides from different regions and leagues to determine who is the best.

oh wait a sec was it just a t.v filler for AFL fans on a Saturday evening.

If your going to compare, FA cup if more like it. Further through the comp teams went, the more serious teams take it. I wonder whether Steve Morris would have be looked at if he wasnt on the Foxtel Cup stage?

Agreed. Especially considering most of the Crows & Power players are from interstate.

Lets fast forward 3 Years to an SANFL that has no TV coverage, Declining media coverage, Less sponsorship, AFL reserves teams competing, Dwindling attendances and Clubs finacially on their knees due to the Mother of All GFC's - (and I dont mean the Bays!)

The Foxtel Cup may then become much more enticing/relevant.

Ok - the opening paragraph is obviously a worst case scenario - but who knows what will pan out over the next couple of years?
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

I was interested to read that Claremont lost 4 of the last 7 WAFL grand finals. If ever there was a club who had an excuse not to participate in the Foxtel Cup it was them. Yet they did and they won both the Foxtel Cup and the WAFL premiership. They were the best team and backed themselves in to be the best team in both comps. If they lost the WAFL grand final I reckon they would have stood up and admitted to errors on the day rather than blame a few Foxtel Cup games that finished close to 2 months ago.

Actually the byes are a positive. According to Roy Laird anyway, but what would he know. All that exposure, getting more sponsors etc is hogwash too. Pure speculation backed up by nothing. You get more exposure and sponsors from playing winning finals footy. I get you could play your reserves and give some kids a chance to play and showcase what they can do but to me if the CDFC plays in this then they play their best side. I'm not comfortable with a team representing the league side that isn't our #1 side.

I don't think that Claremont won the Foxtel Cup, I thought that Williamstown did,

So if they go in next year's Foxtel Cup will you then support them because the club felt it was the best decision. Yet this season you have been completely against the concept. Are you against the concept of the Foxtel Cup or just supporting whatever your club says (ie, criticising the concept because that just happens to allow you to support your club's decision).

This quote sounds like you are shifting onto the fence on this issue in anticipation of your club changing its stance.
