Mind you I shouldn't question the timing too much as it probably helped the 6th placed Roosters knock off the 2nd place Port in the ressies yesterday! :D

Also if this is a general philosphy at Alberton then the Magpies should NEVER be allowed to be the resevres side to a Power AFL team.

As clearly stated by Tony Bamford its all about the performance of the league side. The rest is development.

Why would you tell them this now and not in 6 weeks time?

You now have 6 weeks to play some quality U18s in the reserves who may push to play league football next year.
These decisions do not happen overnight, they are big decisions. Your footy club is measured on the league side, so everything you do below should be to improve that league side, and i am sure the people involved have this in mind.

And wouldnt having the best coaches in lower grades help the development for the league team? Is there any reason Meady couldn't coach the reserves with the different players in the team? Didn't notice Kieren Hall there yesterday, so if he was one of the players sacked I hope he goes to another club where he will play regular league footy. Tim Milera is another one. Ditto Xavier Watson.

Fair dinkum slots if blokes from the U18s havent played ressies up until now there is a good chance they aint good enough until next year anyway! Are you T Bamford? You are defending this in every thread on this forum!

Terry.

When was the last time an AFL listed player got axed from his SANFL reserves side?

(If this is what has happened to Tim...)

I tend to agree with you Wedgie.
I bet Bamford didn't have this problem when he was coaching the 18s.

This isnt what happened. I think Tim Milera was released from the Crows, and he is still with the Magpies, even though he didnt play on the weekend.

Xavier Watson, Kerrin Hall, Izac Weetra, Matthew Sharp, Jared Hails & Josh Rosenthal is my mail that have been told to empty there lockers at the end of the year.

i agree with a couple of these blokes being asked to move on but a couple IMO are absolute howlers of decissions and there is most certainly worse blokes in the reserves side that are the same age if not older than the couple that have been given the ass
Were has Marbles gone and who is Satchel

Correct me if wrong, but I thought Tailem Bend applied for a clearance for Issac Weetra in early July?

Darren Mead was in the stands for all of the Reserves game yesterday and much of the league, not just post-game.

Ok, can you tell us what has gone on then?

Have players been told they won't get a game next year, so they have walked out now?

How come Tim M didn't play if unrelated to this whole issue?

Was in the paper today about this. Milera apparently unable to handle the Crows training schedule so has been released from his rookie contract and gone back home. Port are hoping he'll come back and play for them.

Also Bamford commented (IIRC) the only players asked to leave had been tried at league level already and Mead wanted to keep them around just to play reserves.

So basically Bamford is trying to say Mead was putting results in reserves ahead of player development. Like it or not, the whole point of U18 and reserves in the SANFL is actually to develop players so IMHO it's fairly clear Mead was putting himself ahead of the club's long term needs and needed to go. Probably far too late, but maybe Port erred on the side of giving a favourite son the benefit longer thanthey should have.
