Naley recently discovered his indigenous heritage apparently when researching his family tree.

Greg McAdam not in the 22 - complete joke. He was a superstar.
Apologies too to Kevin Hill and Ross Agius.

And how many games did Wilbur Wilson play at centre half-back?

Phil Graham?

But, I reckon the biggest miss here is Eddie Hocking.

I couldn't see Phil Graham getting a go (especially if Greg McAdam could only make reserves). But, I was looking at where Eddie would fit in. Perhaps ahead of Stokes?

Yes, Mark Naley hmm. I wonder what actually constitutes someone being "named" indigenous?

Eddie Hocking would be borderline interchange player/reserve at best.

I can't believe Ross Agius couldn't make the 22, Derek Kickett and Peter Burgoyne should have been in the 18 (Kickett at the expense of Pickett).

I recall Greg McAdam as a star in his day and I would have had him in, at least on the bench, but probably in the starting 18.

Does anyone know where Eddie Fry played most of his footy? I was surprised to see him named at CHF. Phil Graham was unlucky.

I think Eddie Hocking made a fair stance for indigenous people when he bopped James Manson (sadly, another Collingwood player), making a strong statement. That alone should get him in the side.

Played a fair bit in defence for South but I remember he kicked eight against Glenelg at the Bay in 1982 from CHF ... played there quite a bit for Sturt so that selection is fair enough, particularly in lieu of there being few other options

Coulnd't agree more. There is at least one player in the 18 not fit to polish Greg McAdam's boots. Greg McAdam won a North best and fairest as a 19 year old, he played some excellent games for South Australia and he had played 100 games by the time he was 22. Only injury stopped him from being an all time great.

Who?

No doubt it would've been a very tough decision for the selection panel to finalise the side, not sure how many players in total they had to pick from but it wouldn't have been easy.

Calling Adelaide Hawk.

I have vague memories of a player called John Clarke at Norwood in the late 70's to early 80's who would fit the criteria - AH?

It was only recently that Mark Naley found out about his Aboriginal heritage, for those that were unaware of the below story.

Wilbur at CHF and Motlop at FF are two strange ones.

But these teams never please everyone and are a good start to debates, just as it is here.

TW, Poulter maybe but Palm and Turbill

I agree with the first comment our record with aborignal players has not been good, perhaps we do not understand their
culture enough or, they do not understand ours?

Somewhere there has to be middle ground, we need the flair and brilliance of aboriginal players, I site Austin Wonamerri
as our last case, absolutely brilliant, and much loved at the club, but somehow, never quite fit into the Norwood genre

Perhaps we should talk to clubs like Centrals, Port Magpies, North Melbourne, Essondon and Richmond to get a complete
understanding of how we can be more successfully attract and consolidating aboriginal players into the future.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Poulter had Fijian heritage.
In the early 80's Norwood had quite a thing going with Tiwi islanders in under 17/19's many who were boarding at colleges. I'm struggling to think of any who returned post school however.
Austin played for a year - i'd hazard a guess anybody finds it difficult to become a linchpin in that time. The crowd loved him though as did Bassett.

Wilbur is CHB.

The key positions really are a lottery, I don't really agree with any, although Achee is probably fair enough.

The 1 game qualification is strange.
