A brilliant win by the Eagles. I thought it was going to be a frustrating loss in the last quarter as I thought we'd dominated general play for most of the day, despite being undermanned, but our forward play didn't function with the wind. Fortunately West were also wasteful in the last quarter, but would never have dreamed of a win at the 25 minute mark of the last quarter 7 points down. Such an important win as well against a side fighting for a similar position on the table to us.

Powell, McKenzie, Lewis, Goldsworthy, Parry, Giuffreda were fantastic. A terrific team effort and a win that is hopefully used as a catalyst for the season ahead.

A battle of defences most of the day with both sides making skill errors due to pressure or wind conditions. I thought Morris was outstanding for West whilst Jarrad, Lewis and McKenzie were great for us. Mckenzie, with a typical captains effort won the game for the Eags. Coming back on with an inconvenient injury, he willed himself to get the ball several times and his hard running to get a shot at goal with about a minute to go was inspirational. Needless to say, the goal was kicked to give us a faint chance which we duly took.
All sides have players out at the moment and the leading 4/5 sides that can get a full list together by the end of the season (as central have a knack of doing) will take some beating.

I marvelled at the CD V WWT game last week
Apart from from a few bloopers by WWT in the first qtr, the game turned out to be a highly skilled, entertaining game

Sorry, but I have to say this game was a shocker
Lost count of the turnovers and skill errors throughout the day, by both sides
The umpiring was slightly in WA favour in my opinion

WA only kicked 7 goals, 4 of those as a result of WWT blunders
Eagles 8-9 [57] was thier lowest winning score against WA since inception

Both sides started with loose men in defence
Dunno how Godden out coaches the opposition so often with this tactic
Mckenzie was the WWT loose man, was Hill the WA loose man ?
Well this suits WWT this loose man, as Mckenzie is without doubt the best loose in defence player in the SANFL

Who instigated the flooding in this game
WWT
WA
BOTH
?

I don't reckon either side started with a loose man in defence, however there wasn't a goal kicked in the last half of the first 1/4.
Both teams definitely seemed to use it after this.
Again, why would you let McKenzie roam free when our backline is already our strength, and our forward line currently is not as productive as it should be? Why would you need an extra player down there at the moment? Maybe if we had Hentschel, Grocke, Salter and a fast crumbing forward kicking 4 each week you would.

Reckon Staple is going to become a pretty important foil for us later in the year if he and Grocke can work out their play between them.

In the last 5 minutes or so, 2 WWT stars were outstanding
Mark Mckenzie and Nathan Batley lifted their team-mates

MCKENZIE
Despite the wind, Mckenzie with a split webbing was able to show his class in the final few minutes
He took a splendid mark centimeters inside the boundary at half back from a kick in
Shortly afterwards he ran down to the forward line to receive a pass
From this pass he launched a massive drop punt into the breeze for a goal
What a magnificent solo effort by a genuine star in the SANFL

BATLEY
19 year old star player
Has not had that many possessions in his 2 games against CD/WA
But what he does when he gets the ball is mostly brilliant
In the last few minutes of this game it was no surprise to see Mckenzie will his team to victory
Batley also did a couple of very good plays in the last few minutes to help WWT
He, in my opinion, will be playing AFL next season

One of his gathers off the deck on Saturday whilst running flat out was as good as you would see anywhere.
A very exciting player to watch, like you mal i think he will be on an AFL list next year.
Would hope to see him receive a star search award in the near future too.
