Possibly ... the ball needed to be changed during the third quarter.

It was the difficulty in seeing the yellow ball with our gold guernseys.

Seriously that was the worst game I've seen us play in years. Taking nothing away from Sturt who applied immense pressure for the majority of the game, some of our turnovers were comical.

I couldn't believe we gave away five goals in the following circumstances:
- Twice running too far without bouncing the ball in the defensive 50
- Kicking straight to the man on the mark after Sturt scored a point
- Bad kick backwards straight to a Sturt player 20m out from goal
- Dropping the ball after trying to take a running bounce, for the Sturt player to pick it up and run into an open goal

If you concede 2 goals like this during a game you are normally having a bad day, but this was just horrible.

Eagles supporters & their coach talked themselves up too much over the pre-season!
Did all their supporters flock to Adelaide Oval?

WWT were exceptionally poor last night but Sturt still showed plenty of heart losing Kurtze early - even conceding the taps with Duldig and Wundke we still won more than our fair share of centre clearances. Thommo and Sheeds were characteristically excellent and as others have noticed (including the Crows hierarchy watching from the Southern members stand) Wingard is going to be a star of the very near future. A doubly-pleasing effort in light of what happened down at the Bay

The worst performance by an Eagles team that I have seen since the 2007 2nd Semi on the same ground. 2 things were prevailent; 1) Mentally soft coming off the bye, 2) Godden's game plan - particularly in defence, was a disgrace!!!

Sturt were superior in EVERY department - their pace advantage was telling, as was their centre clearance work & particularly the pressure exerted on our defenders in their 1/2 of the ground.

We had 3 players all night... Macca, Parry (I think he'll go for the last 1/4 incident) & Pat G.
The rest need to have a good look in the mirror!

If this is what we are going to be served up from Godden & the players this year, then I want my membership money back! LIFT YOUR GAME!

Sure would be interested to know who this Alvaro is ( listed in the Eagles stats) Must have been out there somewhere because according to the Advertiser he got 4 kicks, 2 marks and 6 handballs.
We played so poorly we could not get close even with 22 players?

That was the most shocking game of football I have seen in the last 10 years by the Eagles. We did not look up to it at any point during the match. The amount of stupid mistakes made by senior players that cost us goals proved telling as it put us on the backfoot from the start.

As I mentioned in an earlier post our forward line at the moment is a huge worry. Day is not up to senior football. Fitzgerald is still learning the game. Hall is soft and not the crumber that we need. Resting ruckman in the forward line and relying on them to kick the goals generally does not work. Everything is being left to Grocke who has played pretty well in both games but he needs some help. Sadly, we are pretty dependent on Salter at the moment. We cannot expect Hentshell to play much for us during the year. So things are looking pretty grim.

Our midfield is another area of concern. I expect them to get better during the year but at the moment the lack of speed in there is an issue. For whatever reason the Eagles hireachy have ignored that area for years (recruiting midfielders with speed) and it will hurt us in many games. Lewis and Jarrad had shockers last night. Cicca had his worst game ever. Treeby is always injured and doesn't get enough of the ball in any case. Aside from Rowntree there isn't really anything else there. I definitely think we are going to miss the pace and class of Smith and Polec.

Anyway we have played one decent quarter out of eight quarters so far this year. We were lucky to escape with a win against South and we got towelled up when we played a decent team like Sturt. Not sure whether Sturt will be around the mark or not this year but it is very worrying to think we'll be playing some of hte better teams shortly.

I hope Godden goes ballistic at the team during the week. They'd better snap into gear pretty quickly or else I could easily see this season slipping away
