I thought he just liked coaching from ground level at the time, so there you go. Pretty poor that they werent able to use the boxes.

Thought the crowd was probably around 4000 before the game and around 5500 by the start of the 2nd quarter.

Was a great game I thought. You could see the result coming from a mile off though. I said to my mate about 10 minutes into the last that Norwood will get up here. You just cant have the ball inside your forward 50 for 10-12 minutes and only score 0.2 in a tight contest and get the win. Port just had to get a goal to get that buffer but couldnt do it. Norwood were fitter and ran over the top and dominated possession themselves in the last 5-6 minutes. I counted 8 different Port blokes go down with cramp in the last 10 minutes and dont think I saw a single Norwood player do the same.

Butcher and Gallagher were the stars on the day. Butcher looked every bit a first round draft pick, took 9 marks and kicked 3 goals in the third quarter. Great pace off the mark, took at least 3 strong contested marks and made just about the best run down tackle ive ever seen from a big man.

Norwood deserved the win and I must say, they had the umpires against them as well. Not sure what the stats are but there must have been 70 free kicks (seemed to be a free every 30 seconds) and I reckon 50 of them went our way.

4000 before the game ? I thought I hear on radio say about 500 ? If 4 - 5000 that's great as wasn't ther only 22000ish there ? Big crowd problems for Port and the AFL if 5000 was there early .

Especially if a lot of those 4,000-5,000 left between the games - which they did.

Agreed. We got two tough ones early, but then we got the run of it (aside from one blatant push in the face). Blokes near me were going nuts about the rough deal we were getting.

Clearly they had never seen a game of footy before.

Cheers Pseudo. Due to moving to the country and working a lot of weekends through 09 & 10, its the first game of SANFL ive seen live since we got done in the Elim Final by Norwood in 08. Weekend work has stopped now so should be able to get to plenty of games this year :D

There would have been probably 2000 or so in the outer and another 1500-2000 in the members at the start of the game. Very very spread out but it was significantly more than 500.

Only 8 goals for the day to Norwood. A worrying start, but it is only one game. How did the forward line look? Was the inside-50 stat still fairly high?

Mmmm, wonder who you are tlaking abiut here Hooray Punt?

Anyway, as to not continue to take this thread off traxck...

Was a pretty entertaining game of football that without doubt would have been better suited to the Parade last night in front of 8,000 people.

Anyway, enough said about that, I think the majority are all on the same page in regards to the curtain-raiser.

Here are the complete final scores and goal kickers from this mornings game:

FINAL SCORES:

Norwood: 1.2 (8) | 4.2 (26) | 7.5 (47) | 8.7 = 55

Magpies: 2.4 (16) | 3.7 (25) | 6.9 (45) | 7.10 = 52

RESULT: Norwood by 3 points

GOAL KICKERS:

Norwood: N.Eagleton 2.1, S.Rowe 2.0, Persinos 1.3, C.Shenton, L.Jericho 1.2, L.Brown 1.0, B.Campbell 0.1

Magpies:J.Butcher 3.1, J.Thurgood 2.1, L.Harder 1.1, Ebert 1.0, M.Banner 0.2, C.Miller, T.Milera, P.Lindsay 0.1, Rushed 0.2

MY BETTER PLAYERS:

Norwood: D.Pfeiffer, M.Suckling, J.Gallagher, S.Rowe, B.Campbell, K.McGuinness, P.Persinos

Magpies: M.Dolling, J.Butcher, J.Thurgood, J.Mieklejohn, M.Lokan, C.Miller

Agreed .. Johnny come lately snipers can do their best to complain, but they should probably get some runs on the board to earn some credibility first

Oh mate lighten up . Yes I know Phil posts scores and CP your pot shot about new posts just proves what has been said in previous threda. For some reason people arrogantly believe that new posters can't have an opinion and what this runs on the board comment. Last I knew it was a discussion forum for discussion yet some think that they cant comment on SANFL and that some know more about our comp that the rest of us dont?

Certainly haven't complained but happy to have a discussion with anyone .

Of course you can have an opinion mate, but don't get the sooks up when you take shots at someone who has been providing plenty of good information for readers for years, and get pulled up on it.

I dont see the need for it and I shared that opinion.

From a Norwood perspective, I found it incredibly frustrating the number of times we kicked to a forward who had the drop on their opponent (usually Jericho v Lokan) and our forward wouldn't find the body to hold their advantageous position.

Lokan pushed back hard and courageously and won most of the battles that came his way, but I think the likes of Jericho and Shenton could have given much better contests in those situations.

An absolute PFIZZER and disgrace this game should of been played at Alberton or Norwood where it would of attracted at least 5,000 take note SANFL fans do not want to pay 20 odd dollars to watch a curtain raiser HELLO !!!!!
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

Ports defence was very solid. They used quick hands to get out and Norwoods forwards couldnt keep the ball in our forward 50.
Boring atmosphere early but the Power crowd started to get some voice in the last qtr.
Thurgood was brilliant early but seemed to drift out of the game. Ebert's head is huge.
When Norwood had the ball near half back there were hardly any stong leads.
Kmac had another brainfade like last season while kicking in, not kicking to himself to play on but he is so valuable down back.
Cant wait for Shenton, Rowe, Jericho and JD to fire during the same game.
Gags is an inspirational leader. Give Pheiffer a few more games to settle and he'll be a chance for the Magarey
Dont know what happened to JD but was on the bench for alot of the last qtr.
Bottom line, (IMO)Norwood played some poor footy but still got the points. As long as that is our worst footy i'll be happy. Port will not be bottom 2
